The name of an old 1990s apple/mac 1st person shooter computer game--a lot like doom?
Q. You'd start in an area where you get to order food from a machine to get health. Then you would go into a building and go down floor by floor, killing flying robots and trying to get to the bottom floor. Once you get outside of the building you get into a tank and fight a giant robot (or alien, I think). It's a lot like doom, and has about the same graphics as doom, and I believe it came out about the same time. Anyone know the name?

A. Sounds like Wolfenstein to me.

(Computer games) What is the difference between a stand-alone expansion set and an entirely separate game?
Q. For example, games like Homeworld: Cataclysm and Half-Life: Opposing Force are considered to be stand-alone expansions when they not only add new content, but completely replace content from the original games, whereas games like Doom II and Descent II do the same thing, but are always considered true sequels rather than expansions.
Asked by Mr. Conifer - Wed Jul 1 21:38:14 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Well it really depends on how the developers make it out to be, for example Doom 2 could have been an expansion but since the developers decided for it to be a entire game that is what it was, then there is a game like Killxone which the second one definetly should have been a new one (Killzone 2) so to simplify it the developers decide if it will be an expansion or not.

A. The game probably functions in a different mode, perhaps 16 bit? Your computer automatically adjusts for playing the game, You should be able to switch it back in settings.

Violent video game effects linger in brain CHICAGO (Reuters) - Teens who play violent video games show increased activity in areas of the brain linked to emotional arousal and decreased responses in regions that govern self-control, a study released on Tuesday found. Is there a way to keep someone from exiting a video game on a computer and getting back to Windows?
Q. I'm having my nephew over for Christmas and I know he wants to play video games on my computer (especially Doom 3 and Battlefield). Is there an applications launcher that you can recommend that I can use so he won't be able to exit it and get back to the Windows Desktop? I don't have anything to hide, but I want to keep him from changing any settings on my computer if he's left unattented. Any help would be great, thanks!

A. If you have XP, then go to the Control Panel, click User Accounts, click on Guest, then when he comes, make him use the Guest account so he can't mess up your files.

Trying to remember the name of a computer game.?
Q. I used to play this game when I was younger that involved a taxi cab picking up passengers and dropping them off. Similar to Crazy Taxi, except your taxi had weapons and you could shoot other cars or people, and you could run over people too. I was telling a friend about it, but can't remember the name. It looked like a rough neighborhood, and other taxis would chase you too I think if I remember correctly. It is in the Doom era so the graphics are equivalent to that, but it was a pretty awesome game at the time. Any ideas?

What are some good HORROR computer games?
Q. I'm looking for games that are logic based, more point and click style like 7th Guest, Phantasmagoria or Scratches not so much arcade style games like Resident Evil or Doom.

A. The only ones I can suggest would have to be the original Alone in the Dark games if you could find them. Phantasmagoria 2 was good but not as good as the first.. and I think there was a game called the 11th hour that was relatively good as well.

Good FPS computer game?
Q. I'm drastically upgrading my computer and want a good first person shooter (or two) to go with it. I play Counterstrike and Day of Defeat, and was wondering if Source was any good for either of those. Also I'm looking at Doom 3 and FEAR because I heard that those were two scary and fun games, but which is better single player and also online? Also any suggestions on Battlefield 2142? Any recommendations on any of those games or other FPS games are appreciated. Thanks

A. Great taste in games. DoD:Source is a great game as well as CS:Source. [You can get those in a pack (usually from Best Buy) for $30-40. It also comes with HL2:Deathmatch.] FEAR is a good game and you can get the free multiplayer version (FEAR Combat) from their website: Also Half-Life 2 is (and Episode 1) are great. They are very addicting and well made. Quake 4 is pretty good too. I heard B2142 is great but I have never played it.

A. Go to They have the best site for constructing your own computer that I know of. When you build a computer yourself you save a bundle, feel good about yourself, know exactly what is in your system and become way more savvy about how to fix it when something goes wrong. The down side that you will have no "whole computer" guarantee. These previous answers are right on the mark. If you want a computer that does what you want it to do you got to do it yourself. Don't let assembling a computer yourself scare you. It is pretty much like plugging your periferals in the back of your computer, i.e., if the plug doesn't fit the socket it doesn't go there :) I built a computer five years ago that was an absolute screamin demon at that time.… [cont.]

A. yes this can commonly happen but not everyone had this problem...this may happen like what happens in people having a motion sickness,in which the major symptom you have is nausea and vomiting..and the major cause of it is the inability of the brain to understand or(encoding) the continous changing in the vision,so this is the same in playing 3d games because of the continous change in the vision in these games.. the best thing to do is not to play for along time and when you feel that you are having nausea, stop playing and if it persist try to lay down and close your eyes in a dimly lit room...and if it's sever take antihistamin or hyoscine..
