Priscilla Fairfield Bok (1896 – 1975)[1] was an American astronomer An astronomer is a scientist who studies celestial bodies such as planets, stars, and galaxies and the wife of Dutch-born astronomer Bart Bok Bart Jan Bok was a Dutch-American astronomer, whom she married in 1929. The two worked together over much of the twentieth century. They mapped the spiral arms of the Milky Way Galaxy The Milky Way, or simply the Galaxy, is the galaxy in which the Solar System is located. It is a barred spiral galaxy that is part of the Local Group of galaxies. It is one of billions of galaxies in the observable universe. Its name is a translation of the Latin Via Lactea, in turn translated from the Greek Γαλαξίας , referring to the and studied the make-up and changes of star clusters.[2] One of the craters on the Moon The Moon is Earth's only natural satellite and the fifth largest satellite in the Solar System. The average centre-to-centre distance from the Earth to the Moon is 384,403 kilometres , about thirty times the diameter of the Earth. The common centre of mass of the system (the barycentre) is located at about 1,700 kilometres (1,100 mi)—a quarter is named Bok in honor of the contributions she and her husband made to lunar astronomy.[1]
