The Provo-Orem Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the United States Census Bureau The United States Census Bureau is the government agency that is responsible for the United States Census. It was the 45th state admitted to the Union, on January 4, 1896. Approximately eighty percent of Utah's 2,736,424 people live along the Wasatch Front, centering around Salt Lake City. In contrast, vast expanses of the state are nearly uninhabited, making the, anchored by the cities of Provo Provo is a city located within the US state of Utah. Currently estimated at 117,592 people, it is the third largest city in Utah and is located about 43 miles south of Salt Lake City along the Wasatch Front. Provo is the county seat of Utah County and lies between the cities of Orem to the north and Springville to the south. Provo is also the and Orem Orem is a city in Utah County, Utah, United States, in the north-central part of the state. It is adjacent to Provo, Lindon, and Vineyard and is about 45 miles south of Salt Lake City. Orem is one of the principal cities of the Provo-Orem, Utah Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Utah and Juab counties. The population was 84,324. As of the 2000 census The Twenty-Second United States Census, known as Census 2000 and conducted by the Census Bureau, determined the resident population of the United States on April 1, 2000, to be 281,421,906, an increase of 13.2% over the 248,709,873 persons enumerated during the 1990 Census. This was the twenty-second federal census and the largest single civil, the MSA had a population of 376,774 (though a July 1, 2007 estimate placed the population at 493,306).[1]
