What can we do in South Texas?
Q. I have lived in South Texas (San Benito/Harlingen more specifically) fo a little over a year and still don't know the sights (other than South Padre Island). I have a friend from England who's coming to visit for the summer, and we are planning a week here in Texas before spending another 3 weeks in Southern California (where I previously lived for 10yrs). Aside from working and college, I haven't had much time to sight see, and I'm trying to keep the Englishman out of Mexico (or he might not come back). What is there to do down here that is more for the younger crowd? Even pretty little lakes and stuff will work!

A. Well, there's the Port Isabel Lighthouse, and the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville. The Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park is in Mission, and there's the Falcon State Park on Falcon Lake. Other than that, I don't have any real ideas. I'm afraid you're living in a fairly dismal part of the state. Still, I hope you and your friend have a good visit!
