Ancient history is the study of the written past from the beginning of recorded human history in the Old World until the Early Middle Ages in Europe and the Qin Dynasty in China.

The period or era following these events includes the Imperial era in China and the period of the Middle Kingdoms in India; The span of recorded history altogether is roughly 5,000 years, with Sumerian cuneiform emerging from the protoliterate period around the 30th century BC being the oldest form of writing discovered so far. This is the beginning of history, as opposed to prehistory, according to the definition used by most historians.

The term classical antiquity is often used to refer to ancient history since the beginning of recorded Greek history in about 776 BC (First Olympiad). This coincides, roughly, with the traditional date of the founding of Rome in 753 BC, the beginning of the history of ancient Rome. Although the ending date of ancient history is disputed, Western scholars use the fall of the Western Roman Empire in AD 476, or the death of the emperor Justinian I, or the coming of Islam and the rise of Charlemagne as the end of ancient European history.

What is the difference between ancient, medivial and modern history?
Q. What is the difference between ancient, medivial and modern history? How did historians divide it into 3 periods?

A. These are all really nothing more than convenient labels for different periods. Ancient history is roughly from the earliest recorded events (with BC--"Before Christ"-- or BCE--"Before Common Era" --and a descending numbering system--300 BC is before 200 BC-- until approximately the birth of Jesus Christ, after which the numbering of years in the West is sequential, followed with AD or CE in some cases, to distinguish years with the same number) to around the fifth century of the AD ("Year of the Lord") or CE ("Common Era"). The medieval period is usually considered to be from the sixth to about the sixteenth century, and from the seventeenth on is pretty much modern history. The thing is, history is actually living and vibrant--and… [cont.]

What percentage of fundamentalist evangelicals have studied ancient religion?
Q. Religion has been around for a LONG time. Judaism was not the first, and Christianity is relatively new. How does the knowledge of ancient religions impact the fundamentalist belief? Doesn't it seem odd that many ideas have been borrowed and inserted into Christianity?

A. Christians, especially fundamentalists Christians, do not believe in education and any previous knowledge is considered "from the devil". Fundies through out history were always the first to destroy any knowledge left by their predecessors.
