Any Military wives in Fort Shafter, Hawaii?
Q. Im stationed at Ansbach, Germany. But my husband is going to re enlist soon. So i have picked out Fort Shafter, Fort Carson Colorado and Fort Riley Kansas. I wanted more information on Fort Shafter. I been to hawaii a few times but i wanted more info on the base and what it has. Like On post Housing. how do they look. does each kid gets its own room. i have 2 daughters. and in germany u get a room for each person. Also we get free furnishings. its expensive in europe so we get some free stuff. i know in the usa is diff. we never been stationed any where else. anyway all the help would be good and u can pm me if u wanna tell me more thanks. forgot one thing. we are Army. Not Marines. so i think it would be diff if i got info for Marine… [cont.]

A. i was stationed at fort shafter with my dad, but that was years ago. we were put up in a temporary apartment in pearl city until housing became available. i think we were there for at least a month. when my dad signed for housing, we were loaned furniture until our stuff came. we had a 3 bedroom house since it was just my brother and i plus the parents. you can probably go to the army housing site to see what the housing looks like and see what they offer. i go back to visit hawaii often and are houses were tore down. not sure what they put in their place. hawaii is a beautiful place to live, but expensive so be prepared. gas is extremely high and so is rent if living off post. stay at the commissary to save money because food is very high… [cont.]
