To be able to sell a domain name do I need to buy the domain name in a different way?
Q. To be able to sell a domain name do I need to buy the domain name in a different way? I wonder if I just buy a domain name for example from yahoo, can I sell the name to the third party? Isn't that simple as buying and selling a car? What are the important points that I should consider through this buying and reselling procedure? Thank you very much.
Asked by Gokhan K - Tue Sep 18 23:06:40 2007 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments
A. No need to buy the domain name in any special way. Once you buy the domain name you have rights to it and can do whatever you want with it. You will have to sell the domain name to a third party getting payment on your own terms, and then you can simply transfer the domain name to that party. One thing to remember when you do buy a domain name your are not allowed to transfer it for 60 days after purchase. So you need to hold onto it for 2 months before reselling.

How does backordering a domain name work?
Q. I entered a domain name to order, and it said it was already in use but that for $18.99 I could backorder it. Is that a yearly fee or one time fee until the name becomes available? Also, should I contact the current owner directly since their registration info is listed publicly and ask if they want to selll it to me? What would be the procedure to do that? Thanks!
Asked by caligrl - Sat Dec 6 18:11:28 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Go to www.pool.com There's no cost to place a backorder. If the domain becomes available, they try to get it for you. If they get it, that's when you get charged.

what is an illegal domain name regarding trademark?
Q. I have registered domain names for an upcoming release of a product. The release has been known for quite some time and surprisingly, the domains were available. I would like to know if there are certain domains that are illegal, if I'm planning to offer a service related to the products trademarked name. what if i'm not using something like ipod.com but something like ipodservicecenter, ipod magazine, or ipoddrives.com(s) now, if they've trade marked ipod musical cinema - can i get ipodmusicalcinema.com ?

A. The domains you are talking about still contain Apple's trademark, iPod, so it'd be my guess that you'd have a hard time holding on to those domains. Large corporations take their intellectual property quite seriously. I suggest contacting a trademark attorney before moving ahead with your plans. Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

How to register a domain name without revealing personal information?
Q. For an example, a person wants to create a website about politics. And the discussions on the site might be somewhat radical, which can cause trouble to the founder if their information is revealed. How can that person own a domain name without revealing personal information? PS: I've heard of a feature called "private registration." Is it a safe and risk-free way?
Asked by Peter - Mon Mar 16 23:13:59 2009 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments
A. Most registrars will give you the option of putting their information rather than yours as the official contact information for the domain. This is perfectly safe.

A. When you get a domain at GoDaddy they will provide a minimum webspace at least for a webpage. Then if you go into the DNS file it creates for your domain (called a Zone File) it will be quite clear. Lets say you got example.com There will be example.com and an IP www.example.com and an IP mailservers to handle the mail for example.com with their IPs possible some others such as ftp.example.com and gallery.example.com You can just go ahead and change any of those you want to your IP number and save it. Anywhere from 1 day to a week it will wash all thru the caches on the net to make it official for everyone But remember, DNS is just Domain NAME server. It translates the name, to an address. Lets say that your IP is 127.0.0.1 and you… [cont.]

I have a domain name and unused hosting. What's a good business idea for an online business?
Q. I have a very catchy domain name, and a hosting server laying around for about a year now. I want to start some type of online business, but I'm only sixteen. What I want to start is a business that will get me some money in my pockets, not a billionaire. What are some good ideas I should start? I've tried selling my things on ebay, but that's not really what I want to do. I want to provide a service, or anything on my website to make money.

Details in Admin Contact details If admin contact details are yours, then approach Registrar directly and ask them to provide you control panel. They will help you for gain control on domain name. If admin details are not yours, then it is bit difficult for you to prove that domain is owned by you. Still contact registrar and ask if they can help you in this matter. They may ask you to provide few legal documentation and some other proof to give you the control of domain. Regards, Vinay

Q. I own a company and the domain name is already taken and used by another company that only uses it to redirect people to there main site. So they dont even need it. A. You can have the domain name valued at GoDaddy.com. I would take that value and divide it in half (because all of the values I have seen are way too high). They are an online domain auction site and they track going rates on domain names based on factors including search popularity, international recognition, etc.

How about if they are a third, such as "mister john leo smith the third"? Technically, if you want to calculate the name correctly and since http and www are actually anagrams, should you calculate using "hypertext transfer protocol" and "world wide web"? Even more, do you include the proper usage of the hyphen in "hyper-text" and "world-wide"? This is why I do not put much emphasis on gematrics and numerology. What should i need to know before i register a domain name?
Q. I was thinking about registering a domain name, and i wanted to know what kinds of things i should know before i proceed. A. I recommend one of these: Powweb currently has the best offer. Their standard price is $7.77/month ($93.24/year) but they have the 50% sale right now. Disk space: Unlimited Bandwidth: Unlimited A Free domain name Unlimited domains and subdomains Price: $3.88/month ($46.56/year) Their hosting plan includes web builder, so you can create your site just by drag and drop (without any programming), or you could install Wordpress (easy, one click install from their control panel), choose a theme that you like, and start adding content. Or since you know XHTML and CSS you can build the site yourself. As for security that's your host's job. They handle security for their servers.

A. When you buy a domain name you are purchasing a right to use a system that converts the name into an internet address. You then must purchase a website from a web hosting service; godaddy.com , hostmonster.com are two I know. Google "web hosting". Then you need site software for your store. joomla might be a good place to start. If your store isnt real, ie you arent going to collect money, dont worry about a SSL certificate. The answer to your last question is YES. Have fun!

Q. How to get back the domain name hosting if the host company is not responding request, or out of business?
Asked by John J - Tue May 5 12:58:36 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If you registered the domain name though a different provider, such as GoDaddy, you can simply start up with a new Web host, transfer your domain name servers to them (ask tech support how), and all will be fine. Otherwise, if your Web host also registered your domain name for you, you will likely need a new Web professional to help you determine how to regain control of your domain. This is technically something you could do yourself with a whois query and some effort, but if you don't know how, the process will take much longer and be much more difficult than simply paying someone to fix it for you.

Q. I want to give an extra domain name to someone who runs a business online to use as an alternate web address. I would like to buy the domain for a year and give it as a gift. How do I do it so that I give control over to the gift recipient? Thanks.
