An arrest is the act of depriving a person of his or her liberty usually in relation to the investigation and prevention of crime. The term is Anglo-Norman in origin and is related to the French word arrêt, meaning "stop". ProcedureUnited StatesFor serious crimes, the police typically handcuff the suspect and bring him/her to a police station or a jail where he/she will be incarcerated pending a judicial bail determination or an arraignment. In other instances, the police may issue a notice to appear, specifying where and when a suspect is to appear for his arraignment. EnglandIn English law, whether a person has been arrested does not depend on the legal authority of the person enforcing the arrest, rather it depends upon whether he has been deprived of his liberty to go where he pleases. Whether an arrest is lawful depends on whether the police officer or civilian exercising the arrest is acting within the scope of her or his powers. Upon arrest a person must ordinarily be taken to a police station as soon as is practicable, but may be released on bail. Powers of ArrestFrom Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How long do you have before you die from a cardiac arrest? Q. This is a serious question. If you have a cardiac arrest, i know some people can be saved within the first few minutes. If you couldn't get help, how long does it take for you to actually die from it? And is it a painful way to die? Asked by Bri - Sat Sep 26 10:32:49 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. After about 4mins you will begin to have irreversible brain damage and you will usually be dead in about another 60 secs. However you will become unconscious almost immediately, in seconds. If you have a proper cardiac arrest outside a hospital or medical facility the chances of survival are very low indeed unless a trained person happens to be nearby. There is absolutely no pain involved, as you are unconscious almost immediately. It is the commonest form of death, but can have very many causes. Answered by Gary - Sat Sep 26 11:43:33 2009 How long does a DUI arrest stay on a Utah driving record? Q. I was charged with a DUI in March 2006. Because I refused any tests, I lost my drivers license for what ended up being about 9 months total. The criminal charges were dismissed however. I realize my driving record is separate from my criminal record, and that regardless of my clean criminal record, my driving record does indeed still show the DUI arrest. I am just unable to figure out when (if ever) that will not show up on my driving record. Q. lets say someone verbally accused you of a crime. there isn't any kind of evidence that exists. But the detectives interviewed you and are trying to bully you to scare you. can they arrest you in public to investigate you again? what happens if they do arrest you. Do you just get investigated and leave? or do you have to spend time in the jail cell? Asked by Lucy - Sat Sep 12 01:06:01 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. They can hold you for up to 72 hours for "investigation". It happened to me before. Apparently I looked like some drug dealer they were after. I was pulled over, surrounded by police and detectives, thrown to the ground and taken in because I didn't have I.D. on me at the time. Eventually, I was able to prove that it was a case of mistaken identity and released.
