Aircraft were introduced late in WWI and to all intents and purposes did *not* affect the way battles were fought or otherwise influence the outcome of the war. WWI was fought almost entirely with infantry & artillery; ships, tanks and planes played minor roles. Modern times: Air-power by itself has *never* won a war. Air-power shapes & influences battles & campaigns. The U.S. had air-superiority/supremacy during the Korean War which ended in a stale-mate. The U.S. had air-supremacy during Vietnam but the north vietnamese ultimately won. The soviets had air-supremacy during their war in Afghanistan during the 1980s but ultimately were defeated.
