Canada (pronounced /ˈkænədə/) is a country occupying most of upper North America, extending from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west and northward into the Arctic Ocean. It is the world's second largest country by total area and shares the world's longest common border with the United States to the south and northwest.

The land occupied by Canada was inhabited for millennia by various groups of aboriginal people. Beginning in the late 15th century, British and French expeditions explored, and later settled along, the Atlantic coast. France ceded nearly all of its colonies in North America in 1763 after the Seven Years' War. In 1867, with the union of three British North American colonies through Confederation, Canada was formed as a federal dominion of four provinces. This began an accretion of additional provinces and territories and a process of increasing autonomy from the United Kingdom, highlighted by the Statute of Westminster in 1931 and culminating in the Canada Act in 1982, which severed the vestiges of legal dependence on the British parliament.

A federation comprising ten provinces and three territories, Canada is a parliamentary democracy and a constitutional monarchy, with Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state. It is a bilingual and multicultural country, with both English and French as official languages both at the federal level and in the province of New Brunswick. Technologically advanced and industrialized, Canada maintains a diversified economy that is heavily reliant upon its abundant natural resources and upon trade—particularly with the United States, with which Canada has had a long and complex relationship. It is a member of the G8, NATO, OECD, WTO, the Commonwealth of Nations, the Francophonie, the OAS, APEC, and the United Nations.

What Canadian University will allow me to get a double major in voice and piano and a minor in biochemistry?
Q. I want to study Music in my Undergraduate, yet have options, such as Med school when I complete my Undergraduate degree. I figured the best way to do this would be to get a double major in Piano and Voice and a minor in Biochemistry. What Canadian University would allow me do this? Thanks!

A. A girl i know did almost this at university of windsor. She majored in Music and minored in uhhh psychiatry? Therapy? Something like that. Another girl I know minored in Sociology and majored in theatre production at Guelph. And a guy i know is majoring in like.. performace? SInging? something... and minoring in something like that. Those are all combo arts/science so maybe it'd be the same? Try one of those? Best would be to talk to your guidance councillor and reps from major (and minor) universities.

A. you pound the pavement, just like we do. go down to uic. they have job banks. (you will find in phone book blue pages under "employment") get a list of the available jobs. print a resume. contact the employers you find in the job bank. if you are skilled, you will have NO trouble finding a willing employer. good luck. oh yeah, and WELCOME to Canada. i think you're gonna like it:)

What is the Canadian equivalent of the US Federal Reserve Board?
Q. And also currently what kind of monetary policies are they following? Are they lowering interest rates to such lows as in the US? Are they doing anything else to cause the Canadian dollar to weaken?

A. The Bank of Canada is the central bank and they are expected to cut interest rates further in 2009. Right now it's at 1.50. A Merrill Lynch analyst expects a 0.50 rate cut in January and another 0.50 rate cut in March.
