From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. China is an ancient civilization extending over a large area in East Asia seen variously as a nation or multinational entity. In 1949, when major combat ended in the Chinese Civil War, two political entities emerged having the term "China" in their names:
China is one of the world's oldest continuous civilizations and for most of the last two millennia was one of the largest and most advanced civilizations in the world, until the 1850s when it missed the industrial revolution. Subsequently, imperialism, wars and civil wars damaged the country and its economy up to the end of the civil war in 1949. In the 1950s, change to economic policies in the Republic of China (Taiwan) transformed the island into a technology-oriented industrialized developed economy. It became known as one of the Four Asian Tigers along with Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore. In mainland China, in the 1970s, reforms known as the Four Modernizations modernized the agriculture, industry, technology and defense, eventually making the PRC one of the major powers. China is viewed as the source of many major inventions. It has also one of the world's oldest written language systems. Historically, China's cultural sphere has extended across East Asia as a whole, with Chinese religion, customs, and writing systems being adopted to varying degrees by neighbors such as Japan, Korea and Vietnam. The first evidence of human presence in the region was found at the Zhoukoudian cave. It is one of the first known specimens of Homo erectus, now commonly known as the Peking Man, estimated to have lived from 300,000 to 780,000 years ago. From Wikipedia under the

From Google Blog Search: "china" China is a cultural region and ancient civilization in East Asia. China refers to a one of the world's oldest civilization comprising successive states and cultures dating back more than 6,000 years. Due to the stalemate of the last Chinese Civil War following World War II, China currently looks like two separate countries: the People's Republic of China (PRC) and Republic of China (ROC). The PRC administers and governs mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau, while the ROC administers and governs Taiwan and its surrounding islands. Each government used to claim that it was the only official government of China. However, PRC is nowadays widely accepted in the world as the only offical government. Q. As you know, China had done a lot of effort in delivering the Beijing Olympic Games 2008. China had done the most expensive opening ceremony and not to be mentioned, done a lot of homework when planning the games, that is why the Olympic games was a success. After the Beijing Olympic Games, China would definitely return to it's normal life, if I am not wrong. But if China would to bid for another edition of the Olympic Games, do you think it would win the bid? Asked by Ben - Wed Sep 17 14:15:17 2008 - - 8 Answers - 2 Comments A. It could win another bid for the games in the winter perhaps, but the only other viable cities that could win a summer games within 20 years from now include Shanghai and Hong Kong. We know extensively the casualty and condition of Europe in the Middle Ages when the plague struck. However, there is not much information about China, India, and the Middle East during the time of plague. Since the plague originated from Asia, did countries like China suffered less than Europe did? Why is there nothing about the condition of Asia during the plague?
