In biological terms, a Community is a group of interacting organisms sharing an environment. In human communities, intent, belief, resources, preferences, needs, risks, and a number of other conditions may be present and common, affecting the identity of the participants and their degree of cohesiveness.

In sociology, the concept of community has led to significant debate, and sociologists are yet to reach agreement on a definition of the term. There were ninety-four discrete definitions of the term by the mid-1950s. Traditionally a "community" has been defined as a group of interacting people living in a common location. The word is often used to refer to a group that is organized around common values and social cohesion within a shared geographical location, generally in social units larger than a household. The word can also refer to the national community or global community.

The word community is derived from the Old French communité which is derived from the Latin communitas (cum, "with/together" + munus, "gift"), a broad term for fellowship or organized society.

Since the advent of the Internet, the concept of Community no longer has geographical limitations, as people can now virtually gather in an online community and share common interests regardless of physical location.

A. Every court has different rules. Some courts (like in my city) don't allow for Community Service for traffic violations.

How can I tell if one community college is better than another or if a particular community college is good?
Q. I want to attend a community college. I have the choice narrowed to two schools--Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyoming and Northern Virginia Community College in Alexandria, Virginia. Aside from trying to glean clues from their catalogs, can anyone give me some suggestions to figure out which is the better school? I mean, is their some objective source--some accrediting agency or something of the sort--that could help me tell the good schools from the bad ones or which schools do a good job of preparing students to transfer into 4 year schools and succeed once they've transferred?

A. Go visit and talk to people in programs that you are interested in. Many times you can contact the school in advance and they'll be help you get in touch with the people you would want to talk to.

Are there any community orchestras in the Phoenix area?
Q. I'm looking to join a community orchestra in the Phoenix area (northwest preferably), however the only ones I've found are those offered through community colleges, which isn't exactly what I had in mind. I really don't want to have to pay for going to school again, just to join an orchestra. Any help is appreciated.

A. I don't know myself, but there is an Arizona Orchestra Association. I would call the General Manager of the Phoneix Symphony Association Joel Levin at 602 495 1117 x 323. You could try the San Marcos Symphony. San Marcos Symphony "The San Marcos Symphony provides classical orchestral music performed by a wide range of volunteer musicians. The ninety members are drawn from across the Valley of the Sun and are led by the esteemed professional conductor, Jack Herriman. The symphony performs 5-6 free concerts each year at the Chandler Center for the Arts, located at 250 N. Arizona Avenue in Chandler, AZ. " (see web site below for contact details).
