What degrees/license s do you need in order to work with orphaned wild animals?
Q. I'm 14 and a freshman in high-school and my parents told me that I needed to look into college. I would absolutely love to work with the baby animals (wolves, big cats etc..) that get orphaned and need to be taken care of, but I have no idea on what type of degrees or licenses one would need for this. Help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Asked by Bookworm - Thu May 5 19:31:20 2011 - Higher Education (University +) - 1 Answers - Comments

A. Most work in this field does not require a degree or a license. There are very few jobs and most of them are very low paying. Much of this work is done by volunteers. You might look into a university program in wildlife biology, but these programs usually concentrate on management of habitat, rather than working directly with animals. Very few orphaned baby wolves and big cats are picked up by rangers and brought to animal care facilities.

Q. I have heard attics can be as hot as 150 or 160 degrees. Just curious? Yes i have a powered roof vent and soffit vents. all the way around the house. Live in central Texas with direct sun on the roof from sun up till sun down.

A. That is very reasonable. And you are right, I have read studies on attics reaching 190 degrees. 118 with it being 102 is awesome I say! you must have some radient barrier of some kind.

What degrees would i need to teach high school band?
Q. I'm a senior in high school planning on going to college and majoring in music education. What degrees do I need to get?
Asked by twhsbandgeek - Wed Nov 12 19:34:16 2008 - Primary & Secondary Education - 2 Answers - Comments

A. For a small high school, maybe 3A or lower, you could get away with just a bachelors in Music Education. If you would like to go on you could get a Masters in the same thing or in theory, composition, or anything else musically related. Talk to you HS, or colledge counselor they may know more.

What degrees do I need to become a biomechanical engineer?
Q. I aspire to become a bio mechanical engineer, but I'm unsure of the college degrees required to become one. I like the idea of being able to help people through technology, and this is more rewarding in my mind than a safety engineer. I still need to do some more research into good schools for this profession, but if you have any suggestions for that, it would be helpful as well.

A. You only need the bs or ba degree, to get hired somewhere doing something. If your a bit picky about what you want to do, additional training or experience. No education requirements to fit casts, shoes, prosthetic s. Military hospitals have departments to help wounded vets come back. Maybe get hired on there in some capacity and see if you like it. Or find similar situations doing the bit you want to do.

What degrees would allow a person to become an officer in the military?
Q. I missed out on ROTC. I suppose I could take a few extra years, but my current understanding is that some degrees would allow me to enlist as an officer. Are there variations between the branches as well? I'm considering the military as a lifetime career, so I am curious. Thanks.

A. BA/BS/BFA/BBS/B .Mus...am I getting through here? All you need is a Bachelors Degree from a regionally accredited college or university. One of my good friends was an EWO on a BUFF (B-52)...his degree? B.F.A., Painting. Here is my bizarre background...I was both an SSgt and a Captain in the USAF: A.A., Bio. Sci. B.A., English/Zoology /Anthropology (Stupid Triple Major) B.S., Biology M.A., Psychology M.Div., Theology M.P.A., Public Administration (Health Care Delivery) Ph.D., Clinical Psychology All that and a dime (plus a license) got me Direct O-3 as a USAF Psychologist. BUT...N.B. A degree is NOT a guarantee of an OTS/OCS slot. There are MANY enlisted with a BA/BS...and even an MA/MS. For the record, our NCOIC at the USAF… [cont.]

How do double degrees work in graduations?
Q. I'm starting a double degree this year in Arts and Business. I'm curious about what will happen when I graduate. Would I be rewarded two separate degrees and do I go through 2 ceremonies since we wear different colours for our academic dress?
Asked by Dan - Sat Jan 22 07:42:21 2011 - Higher Education (University +) - 2 Answers - Comments

A. No. Usually your double degree is based in one department. I'm a Bio&Psych major. My degree is under the Bio department. When I graduate I will receive one degree and attend the ceremony of the Bio students.

A. At the moment you have the choice of doing a nursing diploma or a nursing degree, obviously child branch. From September 2013 only the degree will be on offer. Some uni's have already dropped the diploma & many won't be offering after this Septembers intake. For the diploma you will need 5 GCSE's at grade C & above. Most uni's ask that the GCSE's include Maths & English & some are asking for Science as well. For the degree you will need the GCSE's plus 2 A-levels. Science, Psychology & Sociology are recommended the A-levels. If you don't have the required GCSE's and/or A-levels then Access courses are also acceptable as an alternative. You may find these websites useful. The first one has a great forum for advice on uni' [cont.]

A. You are a little vague on what part of forensics. But a science bachelors (bio or chem) and then to work in the general lab you could also get a medical technologist training (clinical lab scientist) (ascp.org). You can do a masters in criminalistics (which requires a fair amount of criminal justice core classes). That teaches you things like trace evidence analysis, crime scene photography, forgery, finger print analysis, firearm analysis, hair, DNA, etc analysis, toxicology etc. Then you usually specialize in one area & train further. To do autopsies and that sorta stuff you need to be a MD with a residency in pathology and then fellowship & additional training in forensics. A Nursing degree will not buy you anything in… [cont.]

What degrees can vet tech classes transfer to easily?
Q. I'm currently about half way through getting my vet tech degree, but for personal reasons, I need to leave the school that I'm currently going to. I do not plan to work at a vet clinic. I want to get a degree online and I want most/all of my previous classes to transfer. Are there any animal related degrees that do not require clinical work that I can put my past classes directly toward? I plan to use my degree for general animal knowledge, so it doesn't really need to be specific.
Asked by Karissa - Mon Jan 31 23:00:23 2011 - Higher Education (University +) - 2 Answers - Comments

A. You will have to contact the adviser at the school you are attending and see if they have any agreements with other other colleges to accept credits from their program. And even then it is highly unlikely that you are going to find an online animal studies degree. You would have much better luck transfering your credits to an on-site animal studies degree program. But again, because veterinary technology degree program courses are so specialized you may find that very little will transfer to another degree. Your state veterinary technician association might also be able to help you with a list of colleges that accept credits from your vet tech degree program.
