Should congress recognize any church that does not worship a deity as a religion or a comercial business?
Q. Can it be a religion without a deity? By exempting taxes they recognize churches. Yes Scientology doesn't have a deity they worship, so are they a religion?
Asked by Pecan Tree - Sat Oct 23 20:39:25 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Congress really can't "recognize" a church, that's why they pretty much grant religious status to everyone. I think since atheism has been granted religious status, it is time to kick it out of our schools. Added: The government does not have the power to tax churches in the first place. So, no, they are not "recognizing" churches, which would be in violation of the Establishment Clause. Pretty much any group that applies for tax exempt status as a church will get it. I've never heard of any group not getting it. Maybe someone else has.

Q. To those who believe in a deity? Could the phenomena you speak of be explained by means other than the existence of a deity?

A. All such claims are nothing but arguments from ignorance or incredulity. They're not "evidence" in any way, they're fallacies. Peace.

A. Atheistic Judiasm. Yes there is such a category. Jews don't have to believe in a God to be considered "one of the tribe" as they put it. You can be totally Jewish and not have a thought about God your entire life.

Atheists: Believing in creation does not mean belief in a deity. Why not be open to creation?
Q. I know that atheism means non-belief in a deity. But one does not have to believe in a deity to accept the idea of intelligent creation of the universe. Many metaphysical schools of philosophy accept the idea of a formless omnipresent intelligence from which all form came into being. This intelligence is not a deity. It would seem you could accept the idea of an intelligent creation without accepting "goddidit" and still be an atheist because you do not accept the idea of a deity. What do you think?
Asked by Starman - Wed May 26 05:41:39 2010 - - 25 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No evidence=no belief.. I think without any evidence to support the existence of this formless omnipresent intelligence there is no reason to believe it ever existed... Just another human invention to give a warm fuzzy feeling with out any substance to it...

Lets say deities really CAN exist: What traits do you think a deity should have?
Q. This goes along with my other questions. Lets say that the argument over whether god(s) exist or not is done, and it is found that god(s) can indeed exist. What traits do you think a deity should have?
Asked by Spiral - Mon Dec 21 21:11:31 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. They are not traits they are called "Attributes" Wisdom: Wisdom is the ability to devise perfect ends and to achieve these ends by the most perfect means. In other words, God makes no mistakes. He is the Father who truly knows best, as Paul explains in Romans 11:33: Oh, how great are God s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand His decisions and His ways! Infinitude: God knows no boundaries. He is without measure. This attribute by definition impacts all of the others. Since God is infinite, everything else about Him must also be infinite. Sovereignty: This is the attribute by which He rules His entire creation. It is the application of His other attributes of being all-knowing and all-powerf [cont.]

What is the best way to describe a relationship with a deity?
Q. I know it's bad to say "I use [deity]", but I've heard it's also bad to say "I work with [deity]". I usually say "I follow Athena", but is that also viewed as bad? What's the best way to phrase it? Thanks.

How is it possible for someone to reject the deity they were brought up in....?
Q. Without questioning the validity of other deities? It seems if you've found any kind of good logical reason to leave one deity, the next deity would have to be subjected to the same reason, and would come up just as short. Or do most people switch deities for emotional reasons and not logical ones.
Asked by D.K. - Thu Nov 26 00:06:36 2009 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Some people end up rejecting deities altogether, but that doesn't mean that all deities are lacking. Religious beliefs often involve emotions. The majority of people are likely to believe whatever it is that makes them feel good, whether it involves god(s) or not. I rejected the Christian version of God, because I was tired of my 'own' belief system treating me like an unthinking, immoral cretin. I have yet to find a replacement and I don't intend to try. It's so completely pointless in regards to my own spiritual path. But...to each his own.

How can a deity be all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-present?
Q. Or in other words, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent? After all, if a deity is all-powerful, they can make themselves not be present somewhere, or not know something, but if they are omniscient they can't make themselves not know something, which would mean that they weren't omnipotent, etc. How do you get away from this if you believe in a deity or deities who is all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-present? (Used themselves so as not to infer gender or particular religion into the argument.)
Asked by Sirene - Wed Oct 29 03:40:37 2008 - - 19 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Omnipotence, itself, is self-contradicting. The popular example: Can God create a stone, so heavy, that he can't lift it? If he can, he isn't omnipotent. If he can't, he isn't omnipotent.

Does the second law of themodynamics prove an imperfect deity?
Q. The second law basically teaches 100% efficiency is impossible--therefore perfection is impossible--therefore any deity existing can not by definition be perfect. Therefore the abrahamic deity is imperfect.

Why do we have to worship this deity of Christ?
Q. What's worship mean? I just kinda don't like this so called deity of Christ, because I don't like the word king of kings, lord of lords. I just like freedom of what I desire of what do what's good then having some lord or king over my head serving him like one. I don't like some kind of delusion though.

A. Well, let me start off by giving you something to think about. What would you die for? (I know, I know, same old, same old, "He died for you, why not give to Him?", story, but with a twist) Those you love? Those that hate you? The things that you own? What is so important to you that you would die for it? I have two things, and two things alone. Those that I love, and my beliefs. Nothing else is of importance to me when it comes to that. Well, Jesus died for all of those. He knew that you would be doubting Him right now, He knew that several of the responses to your question would be steadily against Him, and He knew that some would defend Him. Yet, even though the first three happen, happened, and will happen again, He died. Not just died, [cont.]

Is a deity without a doctrine like a ship without an anchor?
Q. Does the doctrine maketh the deity? So without the doctrine, the deity is formless and the best people can hope for is mystical deism, right? And mystical deism is not enough for people; people are inherently irrational and they ve been conditioned into believing a bunch of nonsense they want the doctrine of nonsense! They want the delusion! They want the stories of men living inside fish for 3 days! They can t handle ordinary reality, right?
Asked by Desiree - Mon Jan 5 19:32:05 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Rudderless people need someone to think and choose for them. It's more fear-based than ignorance. Dogma and doctrine give them a set of rules to follow and the threat of Hell and promise of Heaven give them motivation. It's a lack of intellectual curiosity to burden one's self with mere belief/disbelief. It's intellectual honesty to simply accept that we cannot know.
