From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Design is the planning that lays the basis for the making of every object or system. It can be used both as a noun and as a verb and, in a broader way, it means applied arts and engineering (See design disciplines below). As a verb, "to design" refers to the process of originating and developing a plan for a product, structure, system, or component with intention. As a noun, "a design" is used for either the final (solution) plan (e.g. proposal, drawing, model, description) or the result of implementing that plan in the form of the final product of a design process. This classification aside, in its broadest sense no other limitations exist and the final product can be anything from clothing to graphical user interfaces to skyscrapers. Even virtual concepts such as corporate identity and cultural traditions such as celebration of certain holidays are sometimes designed. More recently, processes (in general) have also been treated as products of design, giving new meaning to the term process design. The person designing is called a designer, which is also a term used for people who work professionally in one of the various design areas, usually also specifying which area is being dealt with (such as a fashion designer, concept designer or web designer). Designing often requires a designer to consider the aesthetic, functional, and many other aspects of an object or a process, which usually requires considerable research, thought, modeling, interactive adjustment, and re-design. With such a broad definition, there is no universal language or unifying institution for designers of all disciplines. This allows for many differing philosophies and approaches toward the subject. However, serious study of design demands increased focus on the design process. From Wikipedia under the

What is the relationship between research design and the operational definition of a problem statement? Asked by Jesus Z - Thu May 29 00:49:18 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Stats and Research methods go hand in hand. The design of an experiment will determine the statistical procedure used (or sometimes vice versa). For example, a yes/no questionnaire elicits categorical data, and techniques such as chi-square or Wilcoxon should be used. As well, ANOVA techniques (whether factorial, ANCOVA, one way, etc) also depend on the design of the experiment. There are many factors: number of independent and dependent variables, whether you used repeated measures, whether the subjects are related, presence of a control group... the list goes on. Q. I would like to design a small house with a light bulb or other heating device that is powered off solar energy and has thermostat controlled. Any idea on the type of thermostat to use? Any help finding a resource for such a design? Of course I'd like to bring the cat in, but she is a ferrel cat and is FIV+. I already have two indoor cats, so infecting them is not an option. Also, she is wild (ferrel) and won't adapt well to the indoors. Asked by Bec - Mon Dec 31 22:27:33 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. It sounds like a unique and novel idea...but may I ask if it would not just be more simple to make the outdoor cat into an indoor cat and keep him safe and warm in your home? Did you know that, in addition to the cold, your outdoor cat faces many hazards? It can get hit by a car, attacked by other cats, dogs or wild animals, be poisoned, fall victim to cruel humans who torture helpless animals, get lost, contract diseases (that it brings home to you), become infested with parasites (which it can also bring home to you), it can caught in traps set for other animals and may become injured or suffer before being released, and - if not spayed or neutered - can contribute to the overpopulation of feral/homeless cats.
