What are the important features to look for when purchasing domain names?
Q. So, what are the features to consider when it comes to purchase domain names? whats the most reasonable price range in US$? Thanks. : )

A. When dealing with a lot of the bigger companies the big thing looking at the deals they have. Most of them are about the same to deal with and offer most of the same features. One thing you should think about is privacy options. The domain name is going to get registered to your name and contact information that you provide. This can be used by spammers or others to get info you may not want others to see. Some of the domain registrars offer privacy options where it gets registered through a proxy info sort of. Good feature to look into! Now when purchasing a domain name there are a few things to think of on the marketing side of things. You will probably want something easy to remember or easy to guess depending on your target audience.… [cont.]

Where can I find the cheapest web hosting and domain names?
Q. I want to host bulk domain names or get free hosting. I know that this probably does not exist. I want to host 5 domain names on one hosting plan.
Asked by I can't cook - Fri Nov 28 21:56:23 2008 - Computer Networking - 7 Answers - Comments
A. Have you tried ? They actually have free web hosting and you can upload to your site with FTP. I wouldn't recommend that you use their domain names because you always want a unique domain name. I do use the free hosting for one of my wordpress blogs. I have my other blogs hosted there also along with the domain names. Hope this helps. TG

How do people obtain the rights to sell Top Level Domain Names?
Q. How can people sell domain names and hosting? Where do they get the domain names from? If I had my own server (or made my computer one), would I need to pay someone to host my website and to get a top level domain? Thanks! How do those places (like go daddy) get the Top Level Domain Names in the first place?
Asked by redfox1160 - Sun Aug 3 12:51:41 2008 - Other - Internet - 1 Answers - Comments
A. ICANN has a defined procedure to make accredited registrars (like godaddy). It's a highly expensive task and only serious domain name businesses choose to follow that path. I don't want to enter the specifics but i assume you're not interested for this (i gave you some links below to check just for your information). Additional to the cost for the registrar you need to prepay in packs the domains you will sell from the registry operator. All these above are for official registrars and not for simple domain resellers. For hosting is pretty simple. You rent a dedicated server from a datacenter, share the memory, bandwidth and hard disk resources to many clients and you easily sell shared webhosting packs. You can also buy VPS hosting plans… [cont.]

Is it good to buy and redirect 301 domain names for SEO purposes?
Q. I found a directory with bunch of expired domain names - the directory page where those domain names are actually has PR = 3 my plan is to redirect them to my main domain Is it good for SEO or matters little?
Asked by Valed - Mon Jun 8 18:43:31 2009 - Search Engine Optimization - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Well your idea is really great, only problem is Google keeps track on such directories and websites which are either closed or blocked, and if they realized you are using them for your website for SEO reasons, then it will block your website from Search Engines, and then either black mark it or highlight it as a SPAM. So be cautious of using such tricks for SEO things, which made you cause more than anything.

A. Not if the search engines catch you. Than bad things will happen to your search ranking. In my experience, It's much more effective to simply blog (v6transition.com) about your site and to have a facebook (facebook.com) account for your site.

domain names?
Q. how are domain names linked with the concept of intellectual property in the eyes of the law? how are they similar to, and how are they different from, this type of intellectual property?
Asked by zee - Thu May 25 09:29:54 2006 - Other - Computers - 2 Answers - Comments
A. I have tried finding the answer and found some reading for you. I have bought domain names and never had a problem. It looks like all is decided by the IPC (Internet Property Constituency) which is a part of ICANN (Internet Corporation For Assigned Names and Numbers) From all that I read its very confusing.

How to measure traffic to my "mis-spelled" domain names?
Q. I have several domain names which are the "mis-spelled" version of my primary domain name (and all redirect users to my primary domain). But before I spend alot of money and renew all these domain names, I would like to know if any visitors are actually using these mis-spelled names. How can I measure this?
Asked by ATL Dog Lover - Tue Jun 2 10:49:05 2009 - Computer Networking - 2 Answers - Comments
A. Basically your hosting should have plenty of built-in solutions that help to measure traffic, like Awstats for example. Go to your hosting account and look for the Stats tools. You should have at least 2-3 available. They will give all necessary info about what keywords are used by the people who get to your misspelled sites.

What is the best way do sell or market domain names I own ?
Q. I own several domain names and I know alot of people park their domain and try to collect ad revenue off of it. There are a couple of domains I own that I know are worth alot because of the rights to the books and a movie company buying the rights to the film series has taken place. Tunnels is a book series that is due out in January 2008 in the US and already released in the UK. It is being billed as the next Harry Potter, I own the domains tunnelsbook.com and tunnelsmovie.com. How can I market them to sell them to someone who wants to develop them to cash in?
Asked by Jason - Tue Aug 7 10:55:35 2007 - Other - Business & Finance - 1 Answers - 1 Comments
A. Send a professionally written letter introducing yourself as a domain broker, or whatever you want to call yourself. Follow this up about a week later with a simple telephone call and try to schedule a meeting. Don't allude to your specific domain name until the actual face-to-face. You have to sell yourself and sell the name. 80 percent of successful sales are based on the fact that the buyer took a liking to the seller, not the actual product or service. Good luck. If your price is too high, they will shoot you down. Let them make a preliminary offer.

What stopped any single company from buying up all the good domain names in the Internets beginning?
Q. Example lets say you were a company that had the ability to create domain names to sell... what stopped any particular company from creating and hold for themselves all the good one word www names like ... cooking.com , autos.com, or anything else you can imagine.. for themselves?
Asked by rpyszk - Mon Nov 3 16:36:39 2008 - Other - Computers - 3 Answers - Comments
A. Quite simply, nobody thought of it. Remember, back then, folks weren't nearly as net-savvy as they are now, and no-one thought that domain names would go for the sort of crazy money being asked for them now. The purpose for which the net was originally programmed (of exchanging information/data between scientists) never even envisaged the sort of net we have now. By the time folks started to realise what was happening, it was way too late for anyone to try this sort of stunt--they'd have needed the resources of Lichtenstein, the Bahamas and the gnomes of Zurich all rolled into one. Maybe this is a good thing--after all, can you imagine what would happen if someone like Bill Gates got control over domain names?? Hope This of Help Scots
