Could you drive out of the country with a NJ Probationary License?
Q. Me and one of my friends are planning to head to Canada next summer as a road trip. I'll be turning 17 this year, and will be getting my NJ probationary (provisional) license soon. I've done some research as to if I could drive out of state (will be driving through PA/NY), and that's fine, but no where could I find if I could drive outside of the US. I figure as long as we both have valid passports we're fine right?

A. Canada will only except a regular full non restricted drivers license...

Whats the difference between front wheel drive and rear wheel drive vehicles?
Q. I know how rear wheel drives work, but how do front wheel drives work? I've heard that front wheel drive vehicles are better in the snow too, but is that true? What is the difference mechanically?
Asked by Jasin - Fri Jul 3 22:14:26 2009 - Maintenance & Repairs - 8 Answers - Comments

A. The truth is - it depends. Front wheel drives are considered better in the snow, but mostly due to the comparison to open-differential rear wheel drive vehicles, and because most rear wheel drive cars today are performance-oriented. The advantage comes with the understanding that front wheel drive vehicles drive the steered wheels, which means a driver can utilize the power transmission to the steered wheels to prevent/reduce a skid - something a rear wheel driver cannot. The engine is also located over the driven wheels, improving traction somewhat. However, traction is lost to the front wheels in hard launches, due to the weight transfer to the rear wheels, which is why a rear wheel drive vehicle has an advantage on the drag strip. The… [cont.]

How long will a thumb/flash drive retain the Information you stored on it,before it deteriorates?
Q. Can anything else cause the information stored on the drive to lose it's integrity, like a magnet that comes to close to the drive. Can you hold information on the drive for years. Whats the pluses and minuses of the these drives.
Asked by Wellll... hello then! - Tue Aug 4 18:49:52 2009 - Add-ons - 2 Answers - Comments

A. Theoretically forever. I don't think a magnet would effect it, either. It's not a hard drive and has no moving parts. Just don't get it wet or conduct any electricity through it. (So don't go out in the rain and get hit by lightning.) Plus is that it's small and has no moving parts, and transfers data fast. The minus is that they are so small you can lose them, sit on them, etc..

How do you drive safely at night?
Q. At night, even with light on, it isn't always easy to drive safely because sometimes the road sign isn't clear, the light isn't the brightest, some cars drive with headlights off, and etc... I could be wrong but substantial car accidents happen at night as they do during the day. Personally, knowing all that, I try to avoid driving at night but in some occasions, I must drive. Could anyone provide me with tips on how to drive safely at night? What should I watch out for driving at night? Thanks in advance for any insights.

A. Just some thoughts from a truck driver that spends a lot of time on the road in the dark. First of all use your eyes to take advantage of any light source that reflects off the highway. You'd really be surprised how much you can see if you look beyond your headlights. Oncoming traffic even at a distance will show you what the road ahead looks like. Don't ever look directly at the headlights of an oncoming vehicle however. Look toward the edge of the road on the right instead. Same goes for reflective road signs...don't look at them anymore once you know what it says. Your eyes have to adjust too many times between reflective light and the darker roadway. The ambient light from a distant gas station will allow you to discern the road ahead… [cont.]

How do I get my Seagate Freeagent external drive to stop backing up files?
Q. I don't keep anything on my computer's drive. I keep it all on the external drive and save the computer's drive for software and other things. I keep everything on my Seagate Freeagent external drive. Unfortunately, this drive keeps backing itself up in a Seagate Backup Folder on the external drive, thereby killing all the space with needless duplicates that are hard to delete. I want it to stop backing itself up. Any advice is appreciated.
Asked by The Inquisitor - Mon Apr 26 13:39:04 2010 - Add-ons - 2 Answers - Comments

A. There has to be a seagate free-agent application installed on your PC somewhere. Uninstall it via the add-remove programs (programs and features on Vista or 7). I have yet to see an external hard drive that won't work if its included "bloatware" is uninstalled. If you want the app, then there should be a management tool (try looking in the icon tray) with which you can manage how it does its backups.

What is the best recommended portable external hard drive on the market?
Q. I'd done some looking around on Newegg, Bestbuy, and Amazon for prices on portable external hard drives. The prices look affordable, but the customer reviews put me on edge. Some had said the hard drives (specifically the Seagate Ultra Portable 1 terabyte drive) caused their computer to crash with Windows 7. Others found the (Seagate) drives were poorly constructed and were useless in three months. What are some great drives for the prices these days?

Can I drive car without a driving license in the parking lot in The Netherlands?
Q. I am an expact living in The Hague. I am currently 17yrs old. I am planning to learn driving with my dad's car. I know in other countries such as USA, Canada, you are allowed to drive without a license in the parking lots. In Germany its possible to drive without a license under parental guidance if you are 16. Is it possible to drive car in the parking lots in The Netherlands without any license when they are empty?
Asked by Ayman K - Sat Feb 6 13:47:34 2010 - Insurance & Registration - 1 Answers - Comments

A. No, it's not allowed in the US either. Parking lots are limited access, but they are not private property, so you would need a license or learners permit to drive in them, empty or not.

How much does driving in 4 wheel drive lower the MPG from driving in 2 wheel drive?
Q. For a 2005 Jeep Liberty, does driving in 4 wheel drive cut its MPG in half, since twice as many wheels are operating? If not, about how much MPG is lost? Actually, the four wheel drive is used for snow and ice.
Asked by Soshi Uso - Tue Feb 2 15:51:09 2010 - Commuting - 2 Answers - Comments

A. A Liberty in 2WD gets about 15-18mpg highway... in 4WD it gets 10-14mpg, but in 4WD you should not try to exceed 45mph or you'll run the chance of damage the transfer case and transmission. If you are using the 4WD for snow and ice, which is exactly when you should be using it, chances are you're only doing up to 35mph anyway, so it is possible to get higher-end mileage, 14mpg or a bit more, if you're easy on the gas and brakes, and are on relatively flat roads. Deep snow or mud creates more resistance, thus causes the engine to work harder, yielding lower mpg. On a side-note, anyone with a selectable 4WD should drive a few miles (4-5) in 4WD mode every month, just to keep the transfer case in working order and to verify that everything… [cont.]

How long can I drive without a wheel alignment?
Q. My car veers to the left a little bit when I drive. It's not a struggle to drive, but it does obviously veer to the left when I let the wheel go, to the point that if I need to change to the left lane on the freeway, I just need to let go of the wheel and watch the car slowly change lanes. I was wondering since I am a bit low on cash right now, how long can I drive without getting a wheel alignment before something starts to get damaged? Also, I hear that some wheels get more waisted than others if you don't get a wheel alignment. Which wheels should I look out for in my situation?

How do I set my new hard drive as the default drive to save things to?
Q. My "C" drive is full, so I bought a new Hard Drive today to save more files onto. I want to just download things to that hard drive without manually having to select that hard drive. How do I do that? I am using Windows XP.
Asked by Citiscloset - Wed Mar 4 02:56:59 2009 - Desktops - 2 Answers - Comments

A. If you want your new hard drive to now be the main hard drive you would install it as the master. Thus you would have the rear jumpers set to the master position and your old hard drive would be the slave and you would set the jumpers on that hard drive to slave. When connecting the rear connectors place the end on the master hard drive and the connector further down on the slave.

How long should I drive by myself on dirt roads before I take my driving test?
Q. Im gonna drive on dirt roads by myself to get the feeling of the truck and drive my parents to town. I see my neighbors driving by themselves and they have no license. You think in a month ill be ready for the test?
Asked by The cole train - Mon Aug 3 22:31:47 2009 - Safety - 2 Answers - Comments

A. For the riving test you will be asked to parallel parking, they will check if you obey the Stop signs and the stop lights, as well as all the road signals. They will also ask you to make lane changes, and make right and left turns, that require you to be familiar with the stop lights and signals.

Flashy.exe read about it... all they do is sit on the person's computer, and work thru pen drives, trasnfering from one pc to another. they make all folders into .exe files, which wen run copy the virus onto the PC ur on. there is no such way so BACK UP ur PEN drive as often as possible, get a software that helps u SYNC ur files, U3 and MAXX pen drives have it in-built

Is it bad to drive new cars long distances?
Q. I got a 2010 Honda Civic this week. There's around 200 miles on it (that's how new it is). The dealer told me not to drive it above 65 mph for the first 5000 miles, and to drive a variety of speeds instead of staying on one speed. However, next weekend I am planning on making a roadtrip from Northern California to San Diego. Would it hurt my car to drive it all the way down, staying above 65 mph the whole time? Or should I take another car. Thanks!
