What health effects does nicotine have on the body and mind?
Q. This question is only about nicotine. Do not mention smoke, carbon monoxide, carcinogens, tar, or any of the other 4000 harmful chemicals in cigarettes. Please explain how it effects the mind while in the system, and the long and short term effects.

A. Well used by young children it can cause brain damage (just like alcohol but probably not as bad) hard to say I've smoked cigarettes, cigars, pipes and hookah's for the last 18 months and nothing (disclamier I rarely inhale so this may throw your question off) I actually heard something that pipe tobacco smoke releases nitrix oxside (I really do stink at spelling) in the brain which is a stimulant which makes you more focused (Ever wounder why Einstein was so good at what he did?) So it's a hard question ask your doctor sometime that's my best advice. As far as short term effects it will give you a "buzz" and will lessen your appette and make you feel relaxed. Long term effects could lead to brain damage and amybe even brain… [cont.]

What are the effects of taking a daily dose of haldol while under the influence of cocaine?
Q. What are the effects? For a normal person? For a schizophrenic? Long term and short term effects? Very curious.

A. Due to its strong central antidopaminergic action, it is classified as a highly potent neuroleptic. It is approximately 50 times more potent than chlorpromazine on a weight basis (50 mg chlorpromazine are equivalent to 1 mg haloperidol) Mixing any drugs with cocaine can be dangerous because it speeds up your heart. The effects may include intensified hallucinations or even cancel each other out for a normal person or schizophrenic. any long term cocaine effet can cause heart attack's, strokes.. you name it.. Good luck, I'm not a pharmacist however you can email me if you have any other questions about this subject. -Will

What kind of effects does Amoxicillin have when treating bacterial infections?
Q. Its more like what kind of therapeutic effects does Amoxicillin have? i've been finding it on the internet, but all i got it how it works to kill the bacteria or the side effect..i need some information.
Asked by rose etoiles - Tue Feb 17 08:49:43 2009 - Medicine - 3 Answers - Comments
A. What kinds of "therapeutic effects" are you expecting? Amoxil is an antibiotic. Not a compound with many uses, antibiotic effects being but one. Amoxil is an antibiotic, period. It kills certain spectra of bacteria. The therapy is that you hopefully won't have so many harmful bacteria running around your system anymore and your immune system can take care of the remainder. Do be mindful of the side effects, however. Also realize that using antibiotics can be harmful if used too often when not necessary. Your immune system comes to depend on them and you develop resistant strains.

What effects does using speed do to a fetus?
Q. What effects does using speed do to a fetus? My friend just found out her mom used speed the whole pregnancy and I was wondering what the effects are. I was wondering because there is nothing wrong with her, she is smart, has no learning disabilities, is not disfigured, etc. Is there no serious effects, or was she just lucky? What are the effects? Also, she was not a small baby at birth; she was like 10 pounds
Asked by aljea - Fri Aug 31 03:23:41 2007 - Pregnancy - 3 Answers - Comments
A. Using cocaine while pregnant can have devastating effects on a fetus. Cocaine increases the heart rate in both the mother and baby and the supply of oxygen and blood to the baby is reduced. Because of the reduced supply the baby is more likely to be small and grow slowly. Several cases of bleeding in the brain have been reported in babies whose mothers were dependent on cocaine. A number of fetal abnormalities have been reported concerning the use of cocaine during pregnancy. If cocaine is used close to birth the baby may be born excessively active and appear distressed and restless. Cocaine use during pregnancy has also been associated with an increased risk of stillbirth, preterm delivery, smaller-than-normal head size and low… [cont.]

How to reduce effects from nicotine withdrawal?
Q. Hi I just quit using chewing tobacco and now I've been really dizzy, confused, and lightheaded. I read online that this is from nicotine withdrawal effects. Does anybody know how to reduce these effects. Maybe drinking a certain drink or eating something specific? And about how long should these side effects last for. Thanks for any replies.
Asked by Kyle Bingham - Wed Apr 20 15:47:09 2011 - Men's Health - 2 Answers - Comments
A. There is little you can do to reduce the symptoms of withdrawal. They will lessen and be over in 3 or 4 days. The worst is the first 24 to 36 hours, so hang in. Nicotine is a powerful addictive.

What are the effects and/or side effects of a 22 year old female intaking protein powder?
Q. If you could list as many that you know of, it can either be good or bad. For example short term and long term effects, will it turn me looking like a man, etc. Please only answer if you are sure of your answers or if you are a professional. Thanks.

A. lean muscle needs protien male or female it does not matter.protien helps you lose weight,it turns off hunger signals ,it also slows down the absorbtion of some carbs.preventing an insulin reaction.it feeds lean muscle mass which burns fat.without ample amount of protien the body will sometimes burn its own muscle to get at the protein it needs.some proteins have fillers and are hard to absorb,so i like the natural whey protiens from health food stores,no side affects unless your allergic to milk, then go with hemp proteins which may be better anyway.

What are some effects of being underwater for long periods?
Q. Scuba divers who go down a couple hundred feet, or researchers who live in underwater stations for weeks, they have to have been impacted by it. What would be some of the physical effects on the body of staying down for long periods? (due to water pressure, breathing bottled air, etc). I'm wondering more about long term irreversible effects, not issues that would resolve when at the surface. Not something like the bends either. Thanks!

A. You could possibly experience distorted vision, permanent damage to your nervous system, lungs and eyes due to oxygen toxicity, or reoccurring headaches due to unequal pressures in your ears/sinuses.

What are the effects of procreating a child under the influences of drugs?
Q. Like, perscription drugs, or narcotics like amphedimines or the like. What could happen to the child if it is made under the influence? For instance, how many of these one night stands and the like create a child while under such influences that are not suitable to create a child. Does it really effect a baby in the long run from that point on, or does it happen further along in the development of the child while being carried in the mother? At what point does it show the effects?
Asked by - Wed Mar 28 13:02:44 2007 - Other - Pregnancy & Parenting - 5 Answers - Comments
A. Whether or not the parents are drunk or high at the time of conception really has no scientific evidence of being harmful for the child. Now, if the mother continues to abuse alcohol or drugs (prescription or otherwise) during her pregnancy, the effects on the child will most likely be harmful. Depending upon how severe the substance abuse is, the result could show at birth or it could take days, weeks or even months. There are too many factors to give a definitive answer to this question, but it was a great one!

What are the effects of lowering corporate taxes?
Q. I had a debate with someone and argued that lower taxes lead to companies investing capital in new projects which require new labour, thus increasing jobs. These new employees, in turn, are the ones who pay extra taxes, so the government still receives roughly the same amount of taxes because of this trickle-down effect. Am I right? Also, what are other effects of lowering taxes on corporations? Is it a good idea if the country is facing a deficit? For economic growth? Thank you
Asked by Alex T - Sat May 7 13:13:18 2011 - Economics - 2 Answers - Comments
A. First of all you have to understand that corporations don't pay taxes; they just collect them from customers, employees or shareholders. when you decrease the tax on an activity, you will get more of that activity. In this case you would get more corporate activity in total. You would also be shifting corporate activity from other countries to the US (which currently has the highest corporate taxes in the world). every year Procter & Gamble has to decide whether to invest their profits in US divisions (high tax) or foreign divisions (low taxes). The tax rate influences that decision.

A. Well you know about what happens to scuba divers. But for researchers in underwaterstations and crews of submarines. They face the problem of osteoporosis, Bone Calcium Loss & Vitamin D deficiency. Studies on US Navy crew members living in Submarines during extended tours, have shown that their calcium excretion falls rapidly to 50% of pre-patrol levels during long patrols and remains low for many weeks after return to fresh air. This has previously been attributed to a specific effect of continuous exposure to the inevitably raised ambient CO2 (carbon dioxide) levels, but other environmental factors cannot be ignored, in particular isolation from sunlight, which leads to reduced skin synthesis of vitamin D. Thus prolong living… [cont.]

A. I'm not sure if this would help you or not - but someone close to me committed suicide and I found this book very helpful. No Time to Say Goodbye, Surviving the suicide of a loved one by Carla Fine. it is still in print and it may be at your library. Good Luck!

What are the effects of touching/handling thermometer mercury?
Q. The other day, a friend of mine brought over some mercury he'd taken off some old thermometer. He then poured it in his hands and started playing with it. And when I say 'playing with it', I mean rolling it on his palms, etc. I told him it wasnt a good idea to play with that. Anyway, I was just curious on its effects, so: What are the effects of handling mercury this way and what probable harm could the mercury have caused him?

A. It's only dangerous if he has a cut on his hand, or if it gets into his mouth. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it, but don't worry too much.
