Is the Internet dying a slow death?
Q. First we got this SOPA legislation, now we've got the approaching g TLD extensions soon being introduced by ICANN. The fact that a new g TLD will cost $185,000 (PS120,000) just to apply for it forces most people out of play and it further separates fortune500 and other wealthy companies from the rest of us. If we all sit back and let ICANN do this... How long do you think it will be before every-ones internet connection is filtered and firewalled to only view these g TLD websites? Its turning the internet into a monopoly and more or less destroying any future innovation or opportunity. So, do you also think the internet dying a slow death?

A. SOPA will not pass, Google will not allow it. And even if it does there will be so much uproar across the world that the US government (aka those 50-70 ignorant pricks that know nothing about the Internet) will be forced to reverse the decision. Same goes for g TLD, people will not accept it. The Internet is definitely not dying, there is too much demand for it nowadays. If it went down for one day the world would come down with it, everyone has a need for the Internet, and as long as that continues (which it will), the Internet will not die.

A. Some institutions will try to block access to Facebook if you're in a school, workplace or college that prohibits the use of social websites. Hope this helps

A. That should do it! Have you restarted the machine after altering the hosts file? Another way to have the computer read the hosts file without reboot is Start > Run type nbtstat -R hit enter ___ Start > Run type nbtstat -r hit enter It seems like the hosts file is right, but the computer has not read those entries yet. Grammatical error proofreading help?
Q. I have a paper due tomorrow and the requirements are to not have ANY mistakes. I have read over this but I bet I missed something. Did I use "whom" right in this paper? Paper: David Roland Cook is a singer/ musician from Blue Springs, Missouri whom I consider a success. Cook took something he enjoys and turned it into his living, and so, we can assume he is, for the most part, happy with his life. In May of 2009, his brother died of a brain tumor and since then has actively been participating in caner awareness events. I think that David is a success because he was able to take a painful situation, his brother dieing, and make positive and help for something he believes in and or feels strongly about. Cook took part in the12th… [cont.]

A. The only problem I see is in the following sentence. "and make positive and help for something he believes in" This is is a little confusing. Also, even though wikipedia is a .org site, it is not the most reliable. If I use that site on a paper it does not count and my paper is deemed invalid.

Is there an advantage to hosting a site's intn'l version on the foriegn IP rather than on the same US IP?
Q. I'm wondering if there's an indexing, ranking, spidering, duplicate content advantage to hosting a foriegn version of my US site on the respective foreign IP rather than on the same IP as my US site. Ex.: hosting the French version on a French IP with the true French domain, instead of with a g TLD here in the states.

A. Yes, but not for any of the reasons that you mentioned. Where are the users of the international site located? It makes good sense to put the version of your website close by in case of an accident, or simply to make access for them faster. France is probably not a good example, a prime example would be China. China's access out of their national network is very limited. In 2001 I was working for a multinational company with offices on the west coast of the USA, Tokyo Japan and Beijing China. I was sent with another engineer from Tokyo to Beijing to coordinate last minute changes for a major software release. The second day we were there, there was an accident with the primary network cable going out of China. Poof. All of China was… [cont.]
