do offshore oil rig workers have to work at heights when they start out in this field?
Q. I am not too find of heights. I am very interested in this work though, so I am curious is roustabouts and roughnecks have to work at heights, and if so, are they on ladders, scaffolds, ropes, ect?

A. Yes you are definitely exposed to heights. My dad has been a professional captain forever and he took us to tour the Ocean Star in Galveston one time. It is a jack up rig which is different than a normal rig where the platform is at a stable height. A jack-up's "deck" if you will, can be lowered or raised. So the Ocean Star jackup maybe lower than what you could expect on a normal rig. I DO know that the platform you stand on is a metal grating that you can see straight through all the way down to the ocean below. definitely scary!

A. you should check out wuthering heights the movie first. then you can gather ideas from it. Re-act a scene if probably the best option.

A. It really depends. Are you scared when you're up in an aircraft? If not, then there should be no problem. I know a number of pilots that are scared of heights. I know skydivers that are really scared of jumping off the 10 meter in the pool. For some reason, jumping out of a plane thousands of feet above the ground with a parachute on is a lot less frightening than jumping a few dozen feet into a pool. Doesn't make sense to me, but that's the way it was for them. So, it all depends on how it is for you.

What is the meaning of the heights of volleyball nets?
Q. So the heights of volleyball nets for men's and women's volleyball are 7 foot 11 and 5/8 inches and 7 foot 4 and 1/4 inches, respectively. Why are they so odd? Why couldn't they just be 8 and 7 feet?
Asked by JayeZee - Thu Nov 13 21:42:22 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. They actually used to be 8 foot and 7 foot 4. They have been adjusted to 7'11 5/8" and 7'4 1/8" to make it metric. The FIVB is the international rules body and they use metric. The men's height is 2.43m and 2.24m for the women. The difference is roughly the size of a volleyball.

How do I stop being scared of heights?
Q. Okay so in gym, I was separated into a group who were going to do the Ropes course first. That's when my fear of heights started taking over. A. The only way to get over a phobia is to face the thing you're afraid of. Now, this is usually done with the assistance of a mental health professional through gradual exposure over a period of time. However, since this is coming up so soon, you may have to do it on your own. Start gradually, if you have access to the ropes after school, climb a very little bit, get off and reward yourself. The next day, go just a bit higher and reward yourself. Before you know it, you'll be climbing the entire thing. If you don't have access to these ropes, find different places that allow you to face your fear of heights. Maybe going to the roofs of buildings of different heights? How do you overcome a terrible fear of Heights?
Q. I have a terrible phobia of heights that is really new because it only started about a year ago. I live in a two-story house and my bedroom is upstairs, so I have a terrible fear of falling off the stairway by slipping or something. It has gotten so bad that I am now having nightmares about falling off of it and getting killed. What should I do?

A. Just calm down and don't worry. Slowly overcome your fear by thinking that you know you won't fall and die. Start with something small like your bed and slowly face your fear and grow out of it.

A. Go to www.mapquest.com. Select the driving directions option. Put in Bay Head NJ as the originating address and Seaside as the destination. It will give you a good idea on the distance from one to the other. Then call a taxi cab company from Bay Head and ask them how much it'll be for a cab ride to Seaside

A. I just tried to answer another tide question - it is amazing how complicated the subject is. The Wikipedia page does a decent job: The big factors are the orbit of the moon (with several complications) and 'bathymetry' or shape of the ocean bottom. Much to my surprise, there are points out in the middle of the oceans where there is no tide - very interesting.

How do I remove all table heights & widths in Dreamweaver?
Q. I pasted an Excel table into Dreamweaver CS3, and every cell has a height and width set. I don't want any heights & widths on them - is there a way to remove all of them rather than going through and manually taking each one out in the code? If I select the entire table and put nothing in the height & width properties, that doesn't change anything.
Asked by L - Mon Aug 24 20:27:34 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Make sure the properties window is visible, and you're in design mode (not code). Select the table, and in the properties window you'll notice 4 sizing icons at the bottom left. The top left icon will clear column widths, the one beneath it will clear heights. Click both to remove all width settings. You may find the table compacts too much; if that's the case, set a value for the cellpadding or cellspacing on the table which will allow some spacing between cell contents.
