India ( / ˈ ɪ n d i ə /), officially the Republic of India (Hindi: भारत गणराज्य Bhārat Gaṇarājya; see also official names of India), is a state located in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world. Bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the southwest, and the Bay of Bengal on the southeast, it shares land borders with Pakistan to the west; Bhutan, the People's Republic of China and Nepal to the northeast; and Bangladesh and Burma to the east. In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and the Maldives; in addition, India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia. Home to the ancient Indus Valley Civilization and a region of historic trade routes and vast empires, the Indian subcontinent was identified with its commercial and cultural wealth for much of its long history. Four of the world's major religions—Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism—originated here, while Zoroastrianism, Christianity and Islam arrived in the first millennium CE and shaped the region's diverse culture. Gradually annexed by the British East India Company from the early 18th century and colonised by the United Kingdom from the mid-19th century, India became an independent nation in 1947 after a struggle for independence which was marked by non-violent resistance and led by Mahatma Gandhi. The Indian economy is the world's tenth largest economy by nominal GDP and fourth largest economy by purchasing power parity. Following market-based economic reforms in 1991, India has become one of the fastest growing major economies, and is considered a newly industrialized country; however, it continues to face the challenges of poverty, illiteracy, corruption and inadequate public health. A nuclear weapons state and a regional power, it has the third-largest standing army in the world, and ranks tenth in military expenditure among nations. India is a federal constitutional republic with a parliamentary democracy consisting of 28 states and seven union territories. It is one of the five BRICS nations. India is a pluralistic, multilingual, and multiethnic society. It is also home to a diversity of wildlife in a variety of protected habitats. From Wikipedia under the

From Google Video Search: "india" How can I find businessmen from India to support my nonprofit in India? Q. I am running a nonprofit organization in Southern India and I am trying to find donors to support our programs and projects. I believe that I might be able to get support from people of Indian origins who are working both in India and abroad. Does anyone have suggestions in how I can find a list of potential donors? Asked by Adam C - Mon Apr 21 10:31:38 2008 - Community Service - 2 Answers - Comments A. Look for businesses and local offices of corporations in your area -- the best person to map who these are is you. Donors fund organizations they know. Invite them to come and see your nonprofit, to see first hand the work you are doing, the difference you are making, etc. Have media stories and photos that show the good work your organization is doing. You could even have a special event/open house designed especially for businesses. Emphasize the difference you are making and the results your organization can take credit for -- businesses want to fund success, not desperation for funds. Q. Hi, I am a Citizen of India and I wish to start an online business in the USA. How do I proceed further. How to get business licence. How to get tax id. Whom should I consult. If anyone is doing this type of business, please advice. I can work from India itself as it is an online business. Any link to information or consultant would be of great help. Thanks in advance. Asked by Karthik - Mon May 2 07:46:55 2011 - Small Business - 3 Answers - Comments A. You can certainly start a business -- either an LLC or a C corporation. (S corporations can be owned by US citizens only.) First, determine the type of business you'd like to form. Don't worry yet about your business licenses or tax ID -- you should have your business registered before proceeding with other filings. (You want to make absolutely sure the name you're using is available first!) One you've determined the kind of business that's best for you, you should have a clearer idea of how to go about registering for it, obtaining permits, etc. Good luck!
