Intel (NASDAQ: INTC; SEHK: 4335) is the world's largest semiconductor chip maker, based on revenue The company is the inventor of the x86 series of microprocessors, the processors found in most personal computers. Intel was founded on July 18, 1968, as Integrated Electronics Corporation and based in Santa Clara, California, USA. Intel also makes motherboard chipsets, network cards and ICs, flash memory, graphic chips, embedded processors, and other devices related to communications and computing. Founded by semiconductor pioneers Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore, and widely associated with the executive leadership and vision of Andrew Grove, Intel combines advanced chip design capability with a leading-edge manufacturing capability. Originally known primarily to engineers and technologists, Intel's successful "Intel Inside" advertising campaign of the 1990s made it and its Pentium processor household names.

Intel was an early developer of SRAM and DRAM memory chips, and this represented the majority of its business until the early 1980s. While Intel created the first commercial microprocessor chip in 1971, it was not until the success of the personal computer (PC) that this became their primary business. During the 1990s, Intel invested heavily in new microprocessor designs fostering the rapid growth of the PC industry. During this period Intel became the dominant supplier of microprocessors for PCs, and was known for aggressive and sometimes controversial tactics in defense of its market position, particularly against AMD, as well as a struggle with Microsoft for control over the direction of the PC industry. The 2009 rankings of the world's 100 most powerful brands published by Millward Brown Optimor showed the company's brand value rising 4 places – from number 27 to number 23.

In addition to its work in semiconductors, Intel has begun research in electrical transmission and generation.

How can I get a desktop intel 2ghz celeron to work in my Acer Aspire 4720z laptop?
Q. I don't know of the celeron is fried, because once I've plugged it into the Acer it turns on for two seconds and turns off. I've had to put the stock 1.73ghz Intel 533fsb pentium dual cpu back in. --no I did not apply thermal on the top, unlike my 1.73 ghz it has a larger metal square on the top, which I thought may aid cooling. I was also amazed at the size of the fan and heat sink on top of it from the desktop I took it out of. So far Id say you have the best answer. Where could I buy some thermal? From another post I guess this would make it slower too.

A. I'll look it up... maybe it won't take the processor. The systems sometime come with different processors. The specs that I found are these: Intel Pentium dual-core mobile processor T2310 (1 MB L2 cache, 1.46, 533 MHz FSB) (your already have a upgraded processor over this one) Still, this tells me that its a dual core, which I believe is superior to the celeron that you are trying to install. I would look at the top of the celeron processor and use that information to search on Intel's website to find more information on the chip. Better yet, you can go to tomshardware.com and verify the true speed of each of the processors that you have. By the way, did you put thermal compound on the celeron processor? One of the reasons for a… [cont.]

what's the difference between Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processer and an Intel Celeron Processor?
Q. I am looking into getting a new laptop, I was wondering what's the difference in an Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processer T3400 and an Intel Celeron Processor 585? And which one is the latest version out of the two?
Asked by CaptivateMe - Thu Feb 12 16:14:11 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The celeron you are looking at is single core The pentium you are looking at is dual core (this is the one you want) They are both physically the same size, and have the same speed, but you will get ALOT better performance out of a Dual core.
