National nature reserve is a United Kingdom government conservation designation for a nature reserve of national significance for biological or earth science interest.

The term was first introduced in the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949 which gave the Countryside Commission and Countryside Commission for Scotland the powers to designate reserves.

What are the spiral coils that I saw on national grid cables for? It must be to do with discharge protection?
Q. These coild were approx 25cm long, and the diameter at the "wide" end was perhaps 7cm or so. The coil seemed fixed at the narrow end to the grid cable. The cables in question were lower voltage than national grid - they were part of the grid over Rye Harbour Nature reserve, and only several metres above ground.

A. Cables over nature reeserves are often marked with coils to help prevent flying birds particularly swans and geese from flying into them

How could the authorities be so naive?
Q. To think that Mas Selamat is still hiding somewhere in Singapore? It has been like,a few weeks since his escape and I cant believe that the government and the authorities are giving out pictures of this wanted man to the public in crowded places for the public to inform them of any news regarding Mas Selamat or if anyone had seen him etc. Would he be so stupid such as to appear in crowded or public spaces, would he ever allow people to recognize him? Isn't it just unnecessary to do so? Would he be so dumb so as to still hide himself in Singapore when the authorities are conducting searches basically everywhere? Even in my school,I spot the posters of Mas Selamat being placed up in the canteen. And when I read the news of the police putting… [cont.]

A. The most abhorrent thing about this entire fiasco is how the public is being treated like complete and utter idiots. The story is vague, inconsistent, riddled with loopholes and overall unbelievable. Do the authorities think the general public is that naive to accept all facts (or lack thereof) in the account, hook, line and sinker?! Information is being withheld -- even the most basic questions like, "did the toilet have a window?", "what has security cameras revealed?", "how much time was he allowed in the toilet before he was realised missing?", "did he scale a fence or slip out via the gates?" have been ignored! I don't see how answering these simple questions can "compromise the confidentiality which is necessary for ISD's security… [cont.]

Why do Republicans think McCain wants to drill in America?
Q. If you pay close attention, it is the Democrats who want the oil companies to drill in the reserves that they have already opened... But McCain wants to just open up more reserves for the multi-nationals so they can keep the "future market" looking good... What McCain is saying is that we need less nature and more open oil reserves so that these same companies that are already gouging us can continue business as usual... What Obama is saying is "drill what we already opened up for you or shut up." So why is there this confusion with Republicans (especially on Y!A) that they think McCain just wants to give us lower gas prices?

A. There are all sorts of weak proposals out there. The Dems wants us to start tapping the Strategic Oil Reserve, like that's going to really lower rates. If immediate lower prices are wanted, McCain's gas tax holiday would be far more effective. Now if you want to look at longer term, why not drill everywhere? If Clinton had not vetoed drilling in ANWR back in 1995, we'd have that oil pumping today. If we don't open up drilling in promising areas today, we'll just be screwing our future selves in years to come.
