Is running on the treadmill a good enough substitute to running outdoors?
Q. I'm thinking about buying a treadmill just to build up my distance so that I feel more confident running outdoors. Is it worth buying one for this reason, or will I be using different muscles when running outdoors?
Asked by charcoalskittles - Sun Jul 1 07:56:12 2007 - - 11 Answers - Comments
A. The difference is that the treadmill is consistent in its level and pitch whereas outdoors you are constantly balancing and re-balancing.

How do I take care of a newborn rabbit that stays outdoors?
Q. I have 3 rabbits that live inside the same cage. The cage is a large with 2 rooms. My rabbit had 5 babies this morning and 4 died. So what do I need to keep the other rabbit alive? A. Mother & baby do need to come inside. Not to sound like the harbinger of doom, but if the others didn't make it, please try not to be too upset if the last one passes on, too. But if you can set up quarters indoors for a couple of months, the mother will take it from there. You also need to find out which of the other 2 is the daddy, & either have him neutered, or have mother bunny spayed, or seperate them permanently. What do babies born in winter wear for outdoors and indoors?
Q. I am due in Jan, 2009. I am wondering what kind of clothes are warm enough for babies indoors and outdoors. Will the onesies do for indoors, or does the baby need more? Should the baby be dressed in multiple layers for outdoors. How much will be too warm for the baby? Thanks!
Asked by moderngirl - Thu Jun 26 09:55:23 2008 - - 7 Answers - Comments
A. My daughter (December baby) mostly wore sleepers indoors. But go by the temperature of your house. If you keep it warm, she may well be comfortable in a onesie. For outside, remember that you can't have a lot of thick clothing in the carseat, so layers are good idea. A warm bunting for outside, and a lighter/thinner jacket for the carseat.

A. Don't know if they have this where your from but in San Diego they have indoor inflatable parks. they rent them out for Bdays. Or you could rent out a church hall or recreation center room. Ice skating rinks are nice for kids bdays they have package deals with cake, pizza and skate rentals. some times it even comes with a group lesson.

Is it more effective to take great shots outdoors rather than indoors?
Q. Is it effective to take good shots outdoors and post-process some in Photoshop to do the "Dave Hill Effect"?
Asked by Kevan - Fri Jul 30 22:22:42 2010 - - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Dave Hill is a master of lighting. His outdoor shots are lit as meticulously with studio lighting as are his indoor shots. Whether doing Hill's processing, Dragan Effect or using Lucis Art, the control of lighting is imperative.

How do you train a 8 week old Beagle to potty outdoors during the winter?
Q. My wife and I have trainned our Beagle puppy to potty outdoors and to let us know when he has to potty, but now that is getting colder outside he does not want to go outside. I carry him outside, he may pee-pee, but not poop, or will he just sit there and shiver. We know he has to go because we learned his sniffing. Do we have to now train him to potty indoors? Or is ther a way to get him to potty outdoors still?
Asked by M A - Thu Oct 12 12:43:13 2006 - - 10 Answers - Comments
A. We had the same problem with my Jack Russell. We just kept taking him out and rewarding him when we went. I would recommend buying your dog a coat though, Beagles don't have very thick fur. Try walking him around too, so he doesn't stay in one place and get colder.

A. It doesn't matter what the temperature is, you cannot sleep outside in Chicago and reliably survive. If you try it take guns along with blankets.

Can a pony survive outdoors in snow please answer?
Q. Can a pony live outdoors in snowy weather without being put in shelter at night. He has a good run of land but there is snow. Last year he was out and it was equally as snowy but he was being fed fodder. Please can someone answer. The snow is about 1 inch thick and soft. There is lots of tree areas and lots of sheltered areas in his run of land.
Asked by Blond B - Wed Dec 1 15:46:59 2010 - - 6 Answers - Comments
A. Depends on your pony really, and his breed and clip. If he hasnt been clipped and is quite well built up (if you get me) he should be fine if he's rugged up well. If hes, lets say a thoroughbred, it would be best if he is in or has some shelter, especially if he is clipped. Give him lots of water and some feed to help bulk him up a bit in winter (doesnt have to be loads but just to help keep him through it!) But like spomeone else said, horses have lived in the wild for a long time in bad conditions and with no rug. Hope you find whats best for them. Maybe put a picture on of your pony so we can see him build?? Completly up to you! Good luck, keep warm!

How do I acclimate indoor cats to live in the outdoors?
Q. I have three cats who have lived indoors all their lives. I'll be moving to a new house about two miles away from my current home, and would like for them to be yard cats after the relocation. I'm afraid that once I introduce them to the outdoors, they'll: a) freak out, and get lost in the new neighborhood, and never return b) freak out and use their special kitty GPS system and return to their former home (since it's pretty close by) What can I do to reduce the chances of this happening? Are there any tips for easing the transition from indoors to outdoors?
Asked by xkayce - Thu Aug 2 11:11:25 2007 - - 9 Answers - Comments
A. I am assuming that the cats have their claws, are fully grown and have all of their shots. You need to keep your cats indoors in the new home for at least 1 month after the move. During this time, you need to check your neighborhood for roaming dogs, out of control kids, cat hating neighbors, traffic, coyotes, raccoons and roaming cats. Outdoor cats have a much riskier life (obviously) than indoor cats but they also have a more varied and interesting life as well. It is something to weigh. If, however, you have predators or cats that will fight with your cats then you should reconsider. You may be looking at missing cats, dead cats, cats with large vet bills in the future. You may also find dead rodents or pieces of dead rodents… [cont.]

Can I raise a bird to live outdoors around my apartments?
Q. I live in apartments that don't allow pets and I move around in rural areas. Can I train a bird to live outdoors around whever I'm living at the time? That way I'd have the companionship of a pet, without having to rent an entire house. It would have to be a bird that can handle the cold because it gets below freezing at night in the winter.
Asked by Jeremy H - Mon Oct 22 01:13:49 2007 - - 4 Answers - Comments
A. No. This doesn't sound like an ideal situation for a bird. You would have to keep it caged. If it's outside anyone could come up and do anything to it. Can you maybe get a rodent that could live indoors? Please don't get a bird, if it didn't freeze to death it would get stolen or killed. Hope this helps.

A. I wouldnt take him outside unless it was at least 70 degrees with lots of sun If hes in a sunny spot you could probably keep him out all day I take my boa out pretty much every day in the summer She loves the grass and being able to stretch out ( shes almost 8 ft long) Im sure yours will love it outside too.

Q. I don't mean to take him outside to a public place where he will get stressed. I just mean to take him out for photography purposes. Also, how long is too long to keep him outdoors?
