Outstanding Natural Beauty Answers

Nature Education?
Q. I am a Countryside Warden working in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in North Wales, UK, can anyone suggest a website that I can visit which describes nature education within schools in America? As a Countryside Warden I sometimes work with Keystage 1 childen (4 - 7 years) doing mini beasting or pond dipping. This is part of the children's curriculum to teach them about nature, where they fit into the world and how important even the smallest creature is to the survival of our plant. I'm trying to research new, innivotive ideas - can anyone help, please? Even if you know of a website for educating older people that would be great because as a nation we seem to have lost our connection to nature. Many thanks

Could you please paraphrase this paragraph for me?
Q. The Athabasca River rises in the glaciers of Alberta s Jasper National Park, one of the most beautiful areas of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. For 168 kilometres the river passes below spectacular snow-covered peaks, many rising more than 2,500 metres above the valley floor. Not seen by white men until the early 19th century, the river s upper valley played a significant role in the development of the Canadian west for more than 100 years. A major fur trade route, the valley also has close connections with the surveying and mapping of western Canada, and with the building of railways and roads which have linked this country from east to west. Is it true that the media has distorted the concept of beauty today?
Q. What do they promote nowadays?Nothing that really attracts the eye. It's not jealousy from my part unless you want to induce me the idea that I am jealous.No.I am not at all jealous. The concept of beauty nowadays relies on things like this:extremely skinny bodies, only skin and bones, massive cheek bones(even masculine ones),the so called natural make-up but in fact, models wear tones of "natural make-up" in reality plus airbrush of their pics, deformed vision about vulgarity(they name it "hot appearance"),dark hair(the blonde is hated today and looks definitely trashy, even on a beautiful refined girl),blue eyes(the brown ones are average). The more trashy and vulgar a girl looks, the more she is appreciated. But they call… [cont.]

Fireworks, how do I protect my dog???
Q. We in Britain are supposed to be a nation of animal lovers, yet every year we endure the dreaded november 5th, and fireworks, and so many animals suffer complete stress. I have been to the vet's today and spent PS45-00 on tranquilisers for my dog, as he doesn't cope well with fireworks. I am not a killjoy, but I am concerned for the animals, after all they do not understand what's happening. I live in an area of outstanding natural beauty, and I see many wild animals suffer through fireworks. Why can't someone invent fireworks that do not make a noise, why the hell do they HAVE to be so noisy??? I am not a killjoy, I like a good firework display myself, but why can't people choose fireworks that do not make loud bangs?? Ther's always one… [cont.]

A. i agree. our dog has been like that since we rescued her (she was a neglected dog that lived outside for the first year of her life...so she is scared of strorms, thunder, fireworks, etc). we used to be able to give her a half dose of tranquilizers, and she'd fine. problem is, shes 15 now, and if we give ehr the tranqs, she has trouble walking when they wear off. so now she has to suffer and be stressed out. fireworks are pretty, but totally unnecessary.

Best Cypriot or Greek Resorts for Twenty Something Couple?
Q. Does anyone have any advice on the best Greek or Cyprus resorts for myself and my gf... We're both 26 and looking for somewhere with great beaches, some bars and tavernas but definitely not anything too lively (we like to let our hair down a little but do not want to be surrounded by crazed teen drunks!) We like to do some exploring too so if there are some areas of outstanding natural beauty or some interesting buildings to visit that would be great. Previously in Greece we have visited Zante and Rhodes so would like to avoid visiting the same place twice. Thank you for any advice

A. Protaras, Cyprus! Most of the hotels are situated along the shoreline of Fig Tree Bay, Flamingo Bay etc, all great beaches, and all within easy walking distance of a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants, and a couple of new bakeries too! Basically, everything you need in one area, without the buzz of Agia Napa. From here, you could get a bus for the short trip to Agia Napa...and, no, its not all clubs, lager louts and booze cruises. 'Napa has some fantastic beaches, and some great little tavernas, restaurants and bars too. Also, get a cab, and spend the day at Konnos Bay which is situated between Protaras and 'Napa ...a lovely little sheltered cove, not as commercialised as some of the other beaches, or, travelling in the opposite… [cont.]

I really would like to go to places such as Iraq, North Korea because I really would like to know what places are like (places of outstanding natural beauty) in which westerners are not welcome, but I wouldn't because it is not safe. I hate it because I would love to travel to see every place of outstanding natural beauty in every country in the world.

A. i'm really happy for you that your problem to go to such places is a political issue... i'm not sure about the "outstanding beauty" of Iraq in such conditions. it is not safe not only for westerners, but for all! be optimistic, if money and time is no problem for you, the world is BIG, once you covered half of it i guess by then it will be safe to travel to Iraq and North Korea. traveling the world is my dream... and the list is endless good luck

Q. Rural Dorset is an area of scenic beauty and contrast, criss-crossed by the pretty River Stour and bordered on both sides by Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Along the Wiltshire borders lie the rolling downlands of the Cranborne Chase, formerly a royal hunting ground and now a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering high chalkland views, many wild flowers, birds and butterflies. To the east and the Hampshire borders, heathlands meet the meandering Avon Valley, which forms a delightful natural boundary with the neighbouring New Forest and its woodland and ponies. Holt Heath, a National Nature Reserve, is home to rare and unusual flora and fauna such as the shy Sand Lizard and diminutive Dartford Warbler. Across the River… [cont.]

A. literary because of imagery, language is used descriptively and creatively: example- "area of scenic beauty and contrast, criss-crossed by the pretty River Stour and bordered on both sides by Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty." less literary than a novel because it is a document describing , for example, the physical location of rural Dorset. good luck

A. That looks and sounds great! Everything is correct. When do we leave for Teacapan? edit== Oh, wait, I just thought of something. If Sinaloa is a state, you should say that Teacapan is "in the southern part of the state of Sinaloa," or just "in southern Sinaloa." If you say that Teacapan is "on the south side of Sinaloa," that sounds like Sinaloa is a city. For example, I might say, "My favorite restaurant is on the west side of Chicago." You see? Buena suerte! By the way, seasons aren't capitalized. ;)

Will they get planning permission for their conservatory?
Q. I live in an area of Outstanding natural beauty (lucky me huh!) and my neighbours have decided to just go right ahead and build a conservatory. So they had done a load of ground work that we couldn't see and then one day this huge frame appears about a meter from our boundary fence. The problem is that our house is just over a meter lower than theirs - their side path is at the same level as us. In order for the conservatory to be level with the house they have built the ground up at the back of the house to their house level and raised the path putting in steps and loads of other stuff. Well we told them and told them they needed planning permission but they ignored us. So the neighbour the other side decided to complain to the council as… [cont.]

Would Iceland be a good place for a honeymoon?
Q. My future husband and I had been discussing honeymoon options for a while (we're getting married next April) and Iceland had come up because its in Europe, its a place of outstanding natural beauty, but until now its been very expensive, so kind of not so good. Now its banks have collapsed, I hear its a lot cheaper, so we're coming around to it as a possible option again. Is it really any more affordable and what romantic things could we do there in April?

Also worth a visit is Longleat it is a drive through safari park with Europes longest hedge maze (good fun!), a lake with a boat trip (with hippos and sealions), a butterfly garden, mirror maze PLUS a large old mansion house which you can go in.. If you are lucky they will be filming for the bbc tv series. A bit further over is Frome, a pretty little market place, with and Arts trail. You can get there by Bus or Train. And further up from this is Bath. Good train and bus links especially to Bristol.
