How long will a package of unopened shredded cheese last in the fridge?
Q. I have a package of shredded cheese that fell behind a drawer I seem to have purchased early last month. It is a package of Borden shredded cheese that says best used by 10 Jun 2009. It is unopened, and seems to be in good condition. Is it still good? How long will cheese last in the fridge if unopened? Thanks.

Q. I ordered a package online and the retailer said that I might have to go to the post office to pick it up. How do I know if my package arrived at the post office? Should I just go there and ask? A. I don't know if you have your own post office box. if you do you have to check your rights under the postal code as minors order illegal stuff to p.o.b.s so they have to be careful. Bring i.d. in for yourself and the owner of the post office box, with their permission letter to pick up the item. I just call and explain I have to get a ride down there and need to know if the item came in. Don't try to fool them they seen it all. Birth certificate school I.D. phone number of your adult parent or guardian.

A. Depends upon what sort of shipping the company in Amsterdam (or whomever is handling it once it arrives in the US) contracts for. If it was sent through standard mail, then the USPS will get it. If the company hires a shipping firm like UPS or Fedex, then that company will handle it. You would need to contact the company and ask what they've set up.

A. well if he does not have a tracking number then it is impossible for him to track it. the number is usually located on the receipt where you dropped you shipment off. it will specifically say so on it. look for it there and see if you can find it.

A. I'm not sure how much you need to add to a bottle of water but you can either: 1. Get snack size zip lock bags and premeasure at home and cut the corner off with scissors to create a funnel for accurate pouring. 2. Premeasure and use this little containers or something similar from a retail store. Personally I think it's easier to take a little of something in these containers.

A. If you are mailing something to an APO address then you are really only paying for it to get to the military post office state side and they will take it the rest of the way. But your best rate is usually a flat rate box. With a flat rate box you can stuff it as heavy as you want and it is the same amount. The best way to get a quick answer on prices would be to call your local Post Office.

Why does my package of Porter-Cable galvanized finishing nails say not to use them outside?
Q. I bought Porter-Cable galvanized, 15 ga. finishing nails to use in laying deck boards (5/4" cedar). When I began I noticed the package says "Not for outdoor use - For interior only." What's up with that? I thought galvanized nails were exactly what you wanted for outdoor work. Any ideas about WHY it says not to use them outdoors, and more important, do you think it would be OK to use them for this purpose despite what the package says? Thanks!

A. First of all, they are not hot-dipped galvanized, they are electroplated. That's why they are not rated for exterior use. Second, galvanized screws or nails react with the acids in cedar or redwood, and will turn black. This will cause streaking. The best thing to secure your deck boards is stainless deck screws. For 5/4" boards, you will want to use 2-1/2" screws. They are expensive, but worth it. Finish nails will never hold deck boards down. Once the sun hits them, they will pull out. I'd definitely recommend the screws.

A. This has happened to me fairly often because I just moved houses, so the previous owner's mail still gets delivered here. All you have to do is in pen or sharpie write "wrong address" on the package/envelop e. Then leave it in your mailbox and your mailcarrier will pick it up for you. Hope this helps!
