Q. is there any law on parking in the turning point of a cull-d-sac???
Asked by hannah m - Tue Jun 5 20:17:12 2007 - Other - Cars & Transportation - 4 Answers - 1 Comments
A. None whatsoever unless: It is in front of a driveway On double yellow lines Outside of the parking times allowed on a sign Obstructing something - If a neighbor cant get their car out etc or a disabled person needs a wide berth for a wheelchair out of there gate. If you have followed all of those and are in line with the road signs down you cull-d-sac, then as long as you pay you road tax you have the full rights. If someone is constantly pestering you to not park there you can call the please who can issue them with an ASBO which will not permit them to go near you. Hope that helps! Don :-)

Is it legal to park a car in a motorcycle parking zone/area that has enough space to fit a car?
Q. It s perfectly legal to park a motorcycle in a car space if there are no cars. So why would it be illegal to park a car in a wide enough motorcycle space if there are no motorcycles. It s not like you are parking the car in a handicapped space where you know you can t park regardless if someone is parked there or not. Could someone please tell me what the official law on this matter is?
Asked by Infinite - Wed Aug 18 13:06:34 2010 - Safety - 4 Answers - Comments
A. Firstly, it's NOT a "car space". It is for any vehicle - be it car, truck, motorcycle, or even a scooter. Parking spaces are for parking any vehicle - any. Parking that is designated for motorcycles is not the place to put a car. When it can be found, it's usually an effort to minimize space. At least 2 motorcycles will fit in the space of a small car. Putting your car there defeats the entire purpose. Motorcycle specific parking sometimes has features car driver's don't notice - a hard surface such as concrete, or a steel strip in the tarmac. The purpose is to keep the stand from sinking and letting the bike topple.

Parking???
Q. Help please, I purchased my house in 1983 and since that time have parked in the front garden which was gravelled over by the previous owner. However some 24 years later without any complaints or comments whatsoever the local authority are now saying that they are now going to stop me doing this and put in residents parking bays. Can I claim Grandfather rights to prevent this from happening or any other laws of usage?
Asked by robbiec202 - Tue Jul 17 14:03:23 2007 - Civic Participation - 10 Answers - Comments
A. If you own the property which has been gravelled over, the local authority (LA) has no power, and indeed cannot stop you from parking on the gravelled over garden. So, in the first instance check to see whether you own where you currently park your car. However, even if you do own it, as answers have already said you probably have to drive over LA-owned kerb to get there, which they can prevent you from doing. However, given the length of time (20+ years) you have been driving over said kerb, you may have a common-law easement (Servitude in Scotland and other Civil-law based legal systems) which would mean they could not stop you from driving over the kerb to get to your car park. Speak to someone legally-qualified in your jurisdiction… [cont.]

What does it mean when parking brakes light comes on after pressing brakes?
Q. HELP! I drove my coworkers car to work for him and every time I let go of brakes the parking brake light flashes. It worries me and I am afraid to drive it home today. I already parked the car, applied the parking brake and released it to be sure and it still happens.
Asked by Julie - Fri May 8 10:35:51 2009 - Maintenance & Repairs - 3 Answers - Comments
A. It could be as simple as low brake fluid in the reservoir, however, it may also be a leak in the front or rear brake system or low brake pads. I would not drive someones car in this situation because in an accident it's the drivers fault, not the vehicle owners.

How difficult is it to get parking at Dublin/Pleasanton BART station for daily commuters?
Q. I am planning to take BART to work from Dublin/Pleasanton station. I am willing to pay the daily fee of $1, but I'm not sure if I'll still get a parking spot everyday. I don't really need to go to work very early in the morning. Is it possible to get a parking spot between 8.30-9am everyday? Are there any other alternative parking options nearby?
Asked by newbie - Fri Jan 22 18:46:00 2010 - San Francisco - 2 Answers - Comments
A. Just park at the very end if you can't find any. I always park at the end of every parking place everyday, that way I never waste time looking for somein the front. I haven't been to the station you speak of, however. If not just take the Alameda Harbor Bay Ferry, to Saint Francesco. Or just get yourself through the 580 to Castro Valley and park there. Does BART stop there? If not you could always just get a job in Palo Alto and slap high fives with Steve Jobs and Meg Whitman. You may get to smear your fingerprints on the new i Pad which is being announced today, I think.

Who is liable for my unpaid parking tickets if my car has been sold to a junkyard?
Q. I have two unpaid parking tickets. I read that if I've sold my car, the new owner is responsible for the unpaid parking tickets. However, I've sold the car to a junkyard, and it has been scrapped for parts. Should I still pay the tickets at this point? Or should I send in the illegal parking notices with my change-of-ownership to the DMV?
Asked by BD - Tue Apr 1 01:18:57 2008 - Other - Cars & Transportation - 7 Answers - Comments
A. Well it depends, did you get the tickets before you sold it?, if so then you are responsible, but if you sold it and the junkyard got the tickets then you are still probably responsible, junk yards have a bad habit of not changing the ownership and parking anywhere not caring because it's not in their name, you were supposed to file the release of liability, with DMV, when you sold it, to prove the tickets are not yours if you didn't you have to pay them or they will come and lock your current car now or later they will lock your car until you pay, and if you don't pay now the fines will grow, and if you can't pay they take your car and you probably still have to pay, with interest growing. And just because you sold it as junk to the junk… [cont.]

How much is parking at the millennium biltmore hotel los angeles?
Q. I am having a Prom at the millennium biltmore hotel in los angeles and wondering how much is parking at the hotel if there is a cost? Limo is wayyy to expensive per person so i am planning to drive there. Any idea where to park? Cheapest? How much valet? etc?

A. If you're not getting valet parking, an option would be Pershing Square Mall - parking is free but you need to have it validated by one of the shops inside. The other alternatives would be the private garages along W 6th St and the one along S Hill St. Cheapest I think is Athena parking 2 blocks away from Biltmore along S Grand Ave. I hope this helps.

What are the chances of getting out of paying a parking ticket?
Q. I got a $90 parking ticket today. I parked in a parking area where you need a permit. Apparently there were signs (that I didn't notice) at every 3-4 parking spots. Obviously the one that I parked in didn't have a sign so I parked there and got a ticket. Can I take a picture of the spot and show that there was no sign? What are the chances of them waiving the ticket?

What are the parking laws regarding on street handicapped parking?
Q. I have on street parking at my house and my neighbor has had a handicapped parking sign put up for her elderly mother. I have no problem with this, however, there is only one sign (not two) posted and it does not indicate on which side of the sign is the designated handicapped space. I am afraid of parking on either side of the sign because I do not want to be ticketed and/or towed. The curb is also not painted blue to indicate where the space is.

How do I write off my parking expenses for my job on my taxes?
Q. Parking isn't provided where I work; its a city and parking is a nightmare. I pay 50$ monthly to park in a lot a few blocks from my office. Would this be an itemized deduction on taxes @ the end of this year?
Asked by magicbrianx4 - Mon Oct 12 23:56:44 2009 - United States - 4 Answers - Comments
A. Yes, commuting miles and parking for main place of work are not deductible. Also any allowed business related expenses are subject to 2% AGI limit as itemized deduction. So unless your job expenses are more than 2% of your AGI, you do not get any deduction.

Is it necessary to use the parking brake when the car is parked on a level surface?
Q. I thought the parking brake was extra protection against run away cars when parked on inclines, and that it protected the transmittion, somehow, but you only need it on the incline. My driveway is level, should I use it all the time? Does it really damage the transmittion if you don't?

What is the best way to save on parking by taking the bus to the Orange County (John Wayne) airport?
Q. I am planning to leave from John Wayne (SNA) for an extended trip, and I would like to avoid the hassles and expense of parking at the airport. Instead, I would rather park at a park-and-ride somewhere, and take a bus to the airport. I will be carrying very little luggage, so this should be feasible. My question is, where is the best (inexpensive or free) place to park, where I can easily and quickly get to and from the airport by bus?

How do parking officers know when a meterless parking space has expired?
Q. Where I live traditional parking meters have been replaced by space numbers and a central computerized station where one pays for parking with coins or a credit card. You receive a receipt that tells you how long you may park, but there is no individual meter on each space. How do parking officers know if a specific space is expired or current? Do these spaces revert to zero when a car pulls out? How much does it cost for a city to install these devices?
Asked by vertically challenged - Wed Sep 23 06:44:14 2009 - Law Enforcement & Police - 3 Answers - Comments
A. Never heard of the "white chalk" thing. Some places might do that, dunno. In traditional parking: They simply observe that a car is parked in a space at such-and-so time, then usually do something like note the position of the car, put a pebble under one wheel, etc - so they can tell if the car is re-parked. If the car's there after the time has expired, they write a ticket. In computerized parking: they simply access the computer record of when you parked there & when you should leave. If you're there after that time - they write a ticket.

How important is parking a vehicle part of a driving test?
Q. I know parking a car is pretty important. Period. But not all driving tests require people to park (since they sometimes tell you to go back in the waiting lane where you started). Does a driver have to make a perfect, straight park? Or is the driver allowed to attempt to park but need to back out and then complete the parking and still pass the test? What would you say the percentage of the importance is based on your experience?

A. every part of the test is important go out and do a little more practicing on backing up it won't hurt but it also depends on the examiner and what he wants out of you he might give you a break or not it all depends do you want to do the test once

How does parking enforcement know exactly what time it is?
Q. I got a ticket at 8:55am today for having parked in a no 7am-to-9am parking zone. My watch showed a few minutes after 9am when I parked. How does parking enforcement know it was earlier? Do they use some special type of watch? I really want to contest this so please let me know if you have any suggestions! Thank you!

A. Quite often, councils use cameras (digital) and use time stamps on those photographs. If you are able to, request to sight the photograph. It may well be the the camera has been incorrectly set. In any case, you will probably be required to make out a Statuary Declaration and will also very possibly need to go to court, to appeal. If REALLY serious and you are able to sight a photograph, any other cars who park there regularly, may be in the image. If so, approaching them to discover if they have themselves been hit, may bear fruit. Multiple appeals may force them to back down, or at least admit that the person who used the camera, did so, inside those hours (unlikely I know, but possible). If it is a fixed camera situated somewhere nearby, [cont.]

A. Are they deep scratches or clear coat scuffs? I would tend to thing, based on the black, that they are clear coat scuffs from scraping a black object. Most bumper material has a natural color of an orange/yellow mix. Anyway, I would try rubbing compound first. Go to a reputable auto paint store, they can tell you if rubbing compound will take out the scratches & what compound/wax to buy. If the scratches are all the way to the bumper material and large, get some sandable primer & use an artist brush to fill in the scratches using several layers until the primer is built up above the existing paint. Next sand the primer down till it is even with the existing paint. Lastly, rough up the whole bumper & repaint it. If the scratches… [cont.]
