The term is generally applied to behaviour within civil governments, but politics has been observed in all human group interactions, including corporate, academic, and religious institutions. It consists of "social relations involving authority or power" and refers to the regulation of a political unit, and to the methods and tactics used to formulate and apply policy. The word "Politics" comes from the Greek word "polis" meaning state or city. "Politikos" describes anything concerning the state or city affairs. In Latin, this was "politicus" and in French "politique". Thus it became "politics" in Middle English ( see the Concise Oxford Dictionary). As an academic disciplinePolitical science, the study of politics, examines the acquisition and application of power. Related areas of study include political philosophy, which seeks a rationale for politics and an ethic of public behaviour, political economy, which attempts to develop understandings of the relationships between politics and the economy and the governance of the two, and public administration, which examines the practices of governance. Asked by Ardessa S - Sat Feb 21 14:13:03 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Politics has to do with the way government is run; someone's political views reflect their opinion as to how large/small, involved/uninvolved a government should be. The government itself consists of the control of military, civil infrastructure (courts, police, etc.), and public works like roads, schools, etc. The government also, on some level, institutes social programs and regulates the economy. Once again, politics answers the question of how all of this should be handled or take place. Many questions will start being asked then. Kids love class participation especially if it's fun. If you really want to get them excited have a court trial in the classroom complete with a judge and jury.
