From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Rights are variously construed as legal, social, or moral freedoms to act or refrain from acting, or entitlements to be acted upon or not acted upon. While the concept is fundamental to civilized societies, there is considerable disagreement about what is meant precisely by the term rights. It has been used by different groups and thinkers for different purposes, with different and sometimes opposing definitions, and the precise definition of the concept, beyond having something to do with normative rules of some sort or another, is controversial. Nevertheless, the concept of rights is of vital importance in such disciplines as law and ethics, especially theories of justice and deontology. From Wikipedia under the

There are probably very little "labor rights" for a contractor employee. I think there are the basic federal rights - but you don't qualify for things like health care, probably don't get time off, vacation time, sick time, things like that. Many times a business will hire people as contractors when they just don't want to give them the benefits. If your work as a contractor is soley for this specific business - you probably meet the legal definition for employee - however, I don't think you're going to be able to force the company to switch you to an employee. I suppose you could report them to the IRS - but they'd probably just fire you if they found out it… [cont.] Answered by Flint - Mon Sep 18 05:47:02 2006 How are rights different than privileges provided by the government?
