Edinburg is a city in and the county seat of Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. The population was 48,465 at the 2000 census. Edinburg is one of the principal cities of the McAllen–Edinburg–Mission Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Hidalgo County. The house I grew up in is wood-frame and still standing after 60 years. As to WHY contractors are discouraging you: Perhaps they are currently preferring other construction methods/materials like concrete-block, tip-up concrete, Adobe, or Hay-bale homes ?? Perhaps their "favorite" suppliers are giving them a break on purchase of other materials ?? OR perhaps they are being honest regarding termites or local weather conditions (floods, hurricanes, etc?)
