What are the three countries to visit in Southeast Asia if you want to get the heart of Southeast Asia?
Q. Ok, what are the only theree countries to visit in Southeast Asia? If you have to make choice which countries to visit and you also want to get thet heart of Southeast Asia, which country would you choose? Please give me some advice!

A. I divide the South East Asian countries into 3 groups. 1st group consists of Laos, Cambodia ,Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam.Though they speak different languages but they have cultures which are rather quite similar. All of them are pre-dominantly Buddhist countries and buddhist cultures are prominent there eventhough , Vietnam is much more influenced by Chinese cultures. These are countries considered as mainland South East Asian countries. From this group, you may pick Cambodia as it is quite a laid back country unlike Thailand. Is it true that Malaysia has become a Southeast Asian melting pot?
Q. Many Malays in Malaysia nowdays were considered geneticly exotic since they've crossbreed with many races that were found throughout Southeast Asia.Many of them were a mix of Malays,Negritos, Javanese,Sumatranese,Sula wesian,Borneos,Philipines ,Thais and some even go further like Burmese,Cambodians,and even Vietnamese.What would happen to the purebred Malays in the future?What do you guys think?

A. I cannot see the traditional orang asli way of life continuing into the 22nd century. I don't think Malaysia is unique in this though, all countries will lose their unmixed aboriginals as everyone joins mainstream world culture.

Is it possible to grow flowering bulbs in southeast Asia?
Q. I'd like to grow bulbs like crocus, hyacinths, daffodils, etc. (and perhaps saffron), but will they survive here? What if it's someplace that's 14-18 degrees Celsius on average during the day and receives a lot of rainfall (still in southeast Asia). I'm thinking Cameron Highlands/Janda Baik (Gombak) in Malaysia, since I live here. They did manage to grow tulips in Fraser's Hill (first time it's grown in Asia, they say). Okay, I take it the general answer's yes. Now, the only problem remaining is... Where can I get a bulb? ^_^ Also, do the bulbs bloom only once? And how do I propagate them? P.S. We don't have winters here, just the monsoon season.

A. The simple answer is "yes." You have the same situation that we confront in the Deep South here is the U.S. (think the lower peninsula of Florida, New Orleans, or Houston, for example). Bulbs usually produce without trouble through zone 8 (roughly the northern coastal areas of Florida, for comparison). BUT you can actually grow almost anything frm a bulb if you remember to provide it--trick it, actually--with an "artificial" winter. To do this, place your bulbs in the "crisper" or on a lower shelf of your refrigerator. They should remain there for at least 45 days (this "tells" the bubls that they have experienced a winter freeze of sorts). Thereafter, you are ready to plant. HINT: do NOT place your bulbs in a refrigeration unit along… [cont.]
