SynonymsFrom Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A sport is commonly defined as an organized, competitive, and skillful physical activity requiring commitment and fair play. It is governed by a set of rules or customs. In a sport the key factors are the physical capabilities and skills of the competitor when determining the outcome (winning or losing). The physical activity involves the movement of people, animals and/or a variety of objects such as balls and machines. In contrast, games such as card games and board games, though these could be called mind sports, require only mental skills. Non-competitive activities such as jogging and rock-climbing, are usually classified as recreations. Physical events such as scoring goals or crossing a line first often define the result of a sport. However the degree of skill in some sports such as diving, dressage and figure skating is judged according to well-defined criteria. This is in contrast with other judged activities such as beauty pageants and body-building shows, where skill does not have to be shown and the criteria are not as well defined. Accurate records are kept and updated for most sports at the highest levels, while failures and accomplishments are widely announced in sport news. Sports are most often played just for fun or for the simple fact that people need exercise to stay in good physical condition. However professional sport is a major source of entertainment. Although they do not always succeed, sports participants are expected to display good sportsmanship, standards of conduct such as being respectful of opponents and officials, and congratulating the winner when losing. Look at www.usatf.org there is a section in the back of the rule book that explains the differences for Special races. There are exceptions for people with disabilities in some events. Otherwise the rules are the same. Answered by lestermount - Sun Jul 19 15:05:53 2009 How come black people dominated every sport BUT soccer?
Q. Yes a lot of people that doesn't like soccer or think soccer is for sissy's is because they live in the US but if they live anywhere else Soccer is the most popular sport everywhere so getting that out of the way, you would assumed that since black people dominated mostly every sport but not soccer would there be a reason? Most of the best players of the year are not black. There are some good players but mostly are not black. I'm not racist but I'm just wondering. They are good at basketball, football, sprint, mostly all. Asked by Shadow - Fri Feb 5 13:25:08 2010 - - 19 Answers - 0 Comments A. The only sports blacks really dominate in is basketball and running. Football is 60% black and 40% white, I don't consider that completely dominating, but they are the majority. blacks only make up around 9% of baseball, i'm assuming 3% of hockey, most olympic sports(winter and summer) are dominated by whites, boxing is becoming more white (most champions are becoming white) MMA is white dominated, wrestling is white dominated, swimming is white dominated, rugby and soccer are white dominated. I wouldn't say blacks dominate sports, maybe the popular ones, but definitely not all. Answered by Steve - Tue Feb 9 11:26:13 2010 From Yahoo Answer Search: "sport" ContentsSourced
