A. I've always viewed the United Nations as a conduit, of sorts, through which all currents pass. Because a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, nations with a vested interest in the success of all other nations come together to provide guidance, monitor events or changes, argue philosophies, express concerns, filter or negotiate hostilities, and formulate solutions that will benefit the nation under review as well as each of the member nations in a way that strengthens all. Similar in function to a symphony, with many different instruments each one playing their own melody, led by a wise and talented conductor whose task is to bring everyone into harmony. Or, so I believe. Hope this helps.

A. Works by Associations, Corporations, Government Agencies, etc. The names of groups that serve as authors (corporate authors) are usually written out each time they appear in a text reference. (National Institute of Mental Health [NIMH], 2007) When appropriate, the names of some corporate authors are spelled out in the first reference and abbreviated in all subsequent citations. The general rule for abbreviating in this manner is to supply enough information in the text citation for a reader to locate its source in the Reference List without difficulty. (NIMH, 2007) Works with No Author When a work has no author, use the first two or three words of the work's title (omitting any initial articles) as your text reference, capitalizing… [cont.]

What were the results of the United Nations decision to end the mandate system in terms of states created?
Q. What were the results of the United Nations decision to end the mandate system in terms of states created (location) and their subsequent problems? plz i really need help with this!
Asked by Alexis - Thu Apr 29 17:46:18 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The UN has never decided to end the mandate system. From time to time the different bodies of the United Nations pass resolutions which contain operating paragraphs that begin with the words "requests", "calls upon", or "encourages", which the Secretary-General interprets as a mandate to set up a temporary organization or do something. These mandates can be as little as researching and publishing a written report, or mounting a full scale peace-keeping operation (usually the exclusive domain of the Security Council). The United Nations has not implemented the mandate system to form new states within recent years, however, they could still do so if they wished to. The problem would only exist in how effectively they could do so. The lack… [cont.]

Q. Recently, Malaysia was voted into the Human Rights Council of The United Nations. Majority of members countries voted Malaysia in. I wonder what voting system was used? How transparent was the system? Just recently, The UNITED Nations said, they will not accept Malaysia into the human rights council and now they accept! Very strange turn of events. What happen?

A. You and I know that Malaysia failed miserably in human rights issue. Even our own SUHAKAM failed big time. " The UNITED Nations said, they will not accept Malaysia into the human rights council " The only way to make the Malaysian govt adhere to human rights laws is for the UN and UNHCR to "force" Malaysia to sit in the council. If the UN member countries did not "force" Malaysian govt into the council then our govt can run away from duties and continues to rob refugees , migrant workers and taunts non bn political people. Now, najib ,rosmah and bn loves to take credits and talk big. That bn is a caring govt. This mean Malaysia will have to follow and set good examples In other word the UN trapped Malaysian govt. What is the United Nations Administrative Support Assessment Test about?
Q. Im planning to finish high school this year and i want to get a job at the UN and it says i have to take the United Nations Administrative Support Assessment Test which i don't much about??? any can help???
Asked by Miss Hello Kitty - Sun Oct 12 13:40:10 2008 - - 1 Answers - 2 Comments

A. If I recall the test is divided into two parts. One is general or world knowledge and the other is administrative; I seem to recall there being some simple math questions included in part 1 also. My suggestion is - if you can - take a secretarial course - also in this day of computers being able to type properly is always a good thing. It will provide you with office organizational skills that will help with part two.

Asked by williebaznj - Sat Jan 2 15:16:42 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The UN is financed from assessed and voluntary contributions from member states. The regular two-year budgets of the UN and its specialized agencies are funded by assessments. The General Assembly approves the regular budget and determines the assessment for each member. This is broadly based on the relative capacity of each country to pay, as measured by their Gross National Income (GNI), with adjustments for external debt and low per capita income. See link below for PDF of 2009 funding from each country.

How does the United Nations affect the sovereignty of the state?
Q. Does the United Nations' influence reach too far a length? Is the sovereignty of the state (who are members of the UN) become diminished? Please feel free to not be restricted by what I put in the 'body' of the question.
Asked by David - Sun Nov 28 05:23:59 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The sovereignty of the nation-state is of the highest authority and cannot be superseded by any other nation-state or an NGO like the UN. The UN can only suggest and condemn certain aspects of governance within a nation-state. It cannot interfere at all with the daily 'running' of a state. This is mainly due to the fact that the world is ordered by realism - a theory that suggests that all individuals and societies are power-hungry entities that search only for personal and national wealth at the expense of other individuals and nations. So, while the UN is based on idealism and the pursuit of equilibrium between nations, it cannot actually enforce its statutes on its member countries, because those member-states have the final authority… [cont.]

Is the United Nations useless, and the idea of diplomacy between different nations doomed to fail?
Q. Has the united nations solved any conflict, either after or before it has happened, without military action?
Asked by Sana - Sun Sep 6 05:05:51 2009 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Most of the people complaining about the UN don't seem to actually understand what the organization even does. Is it useless? No. The UN helps resolve border disputes peacefully, and in fact did so with Cameroon and Nigeria, and with Libya and Chad. Without the UN, both of those might have erupted into actual fighting. There are many other things that the UN does, like negotiating multi-lateral treaties on ocean shipping for instance, which would be impossible if the UN didn't exist.

Should the United Nations organize an armed intervention in Zimbabwe?
Q. Considering that Robert Mugabe is the root cause of Zimbabwe's crisis and that millions in aid money from foreign nations have been embezzled, should the United Nations invade? It seems like a waste to keep giving money to Zimbabwe -- in addition, what's going on there is also harming neighboring countries who do not have the sources or support to invade. What do you think?
Asked by ~*N*~ - Tue Mar 10 22:24:34 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Lets learn from history. Countries the UN or other groups have invaded to stabilize recently - Somalia, Iraq, Afganistan, Congo - several times. It is easy enough to overthrow a regime. Mugabe could be kicked out and probably deserves it. The real question is would the average Zimbabwean be better off. Only if the UN was prepared to invest a lot to fix the place up and repair the damages of invasion. After all, they would want to neutralise any possible defense. If the UN were going to do something then rather do it before the place is destroyed - 5 years ago and not watch it happen. Western businesses have been investing in the place - in mining for example and local countries with the exception of Botswana and Zambia have not stood up… [cont.]

What changes would you like to see in the United Nations?
Q. I just read that French President Nicolas Sarkozy has demanded that the United Nations be reformed, saying "The UN is absolutely indispensable and yet at the same time, it s not working." President Obama, though, has been reluctant to press for reform. Is the United Nations essential, and if so, should it be reformed? What are your suggestions?
Asked by Suzianne - Fri Mar 12 10:10:54 2010 - - 28 Answers - 1 Comments

A. The UN's aim was to facilitate cooperation in international law, international security, economic development, social progress, human rights, and the achieving of world peace. The UN has also been accused of bureaucratic inefficiency and waste. They want reform. Just does not seem to be working. Get rid of it.

Why do conservatives always say that funding the United Nations is a worthless cause?
Q. The United Nations promotes peace and unity among all nations! Unfortunately, most of these nations have very little cash to their names and they rely on rich countries, like the United States, to fund and sponsor the organization. The UN promotes equality and is against racism of all forms. Could this be the reason conservatives oppose everything the United Nations stands for? Why do they think the United States should make its own decisions without first petitioning the worldwide consortium for permission first?

A. The big problem with the UN is the vetoes held by certain countries. For instance the UN is ineffective in the Israeli war because the US has vetoed UN resolutions against Israel 29 times. I think listening to American above would be pretty useless. Some people just haven't a clue.
