What is the best way to convert USD to Euros for spending money in Amsterdam?
Q. Are there shops and restaurants that would take my Wachovia Visa debit/credit card as payment and withdraw USD that they convert to euros? I don't want to have to walk around with alot of cash there. If I must withdraw cash, is it best to do it here or there? I'd imagine all of these things incur some kind of fee.
Asked by PaulN - Sun Nov 9 14:42:18 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Most Visa credit cards are OK for payment, not too much of a fee there. For cash you better take you bank card, and use it in an ATM, lower fees, normally. Check with your credit card company and your bank that your cards are ready for use in Europe, (and tell the companies that you plan on using them abroad, American companies seem to need to be told.) And ask about the fees they charge. You are right, traveling with cash is stupid, just take enough for the first day or so, or just get it out of the ATM after arriving.

Are the Europeans Trying to prevent the USD from getting stronger again?
Q. I asked a question when will the usd get stronger then the Euro again, and someone answered never, the Europeans wont allow it. Do they have this kind of control?

A. Europeans? Try the Federal Reserve. The value of the dollar has diminished since the Federal Reserve was enacted, unconstitutionally, by the way.

What is a good country for seniors health care with favorable USD exchange rate.?
Q. Looking for a peaceful country with low cost dental and health care of high quality, good exchange rate with the USD, not cold climate and nice beaches, yet having a cosmopolitan city, with rent subsidy for low income seniors or low cost rents, and where there are some English speakers. New Zealand does not want older people, South Africa is not calm, Canada is too cold. Buenos Aires is appealing but rents are not low. Europe is out due to currency exchange rate. Does anyone know about Bermuda, Gibraltar, Cyprus, Uruguay?

Q. Suppose the instant price in USD is 13.57 per Ounce and MCX price is 18300 INR per Kg. The INR price should be 13.57X39.90 (Current Exchange price)x 31 app (Conversion Factor). But it is not so. It comes to 16784 whereas the actual is 18300 INR. How the difference is explained?

What kind of business could I start in the Philippines for 3,000 USD?

A. Hmmm...$3,000.00 US, huh? For that much, you would probably be the richest person in the country. You could buy villages with the residents included. That's like 500 Trillion peso over there. Don't send your money there, it will end up paying for things like rotten duck eggs, karaoke machines, red horse beer and stupid tricycles.

What is best payment method to make payments in USD?
Q. Hi there, I am living in UK and I wanted to make a payment abroad which is in USD. Can anyone help me the best payment method where I will have to pay less commission charges? What is advisable? TT, western union, Paypal?? I dont know what?? Thanks.
Asked by Kash - Tue Jan 12 04:58:58 2010 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The best option would be a credit card payment because you could make it online or over the phone and would probably be covered by cardholder insurance in case of any problems with the sale (depending on your card provider, of course). If you can't use a credit card Paypal would probably be the best second option as you will have full documentary evidence of the transaction, again, in case anything goes wrong.

Why is the exchange rate from USD to GBP increasing?
Q. I live in the US and I often buy CDs (Compact Discs, not certificates of deposit) from the UK. For the past year so A USD was worth about .5 GBP, or even a little less. I assumed this was because of the state of the economy. The economy, however, is seemingly worse then ever, yet the USD seems to be worth about .6 GBP. Will it continue in this direction? That would be phenomenal I hate paying upwards of 20 bucks for a single CD!

A. I am not so sure its at .6GBP per dollar but you can expect it to be close or even grow more than that should the royal banks and treasuries not get thier bailouts sorted. the british traders right now are much more jittery right now and the speculation over trade in the entire world is causing problems all over the place the only one to benefit from this will be the US mark my words in 2009 the US stock market will be like no other it will be the bull market of the centuary of course

How much lower can the USD go against the CDN?
Q. I know that it's an inexact science but where do you think the bottom is? What will be the balancing points? From what I read the CDN is more and more de-coupled from the USD so I'm not sure that there is anything that could stop it falling below 0.90 which is a problem for me. What news would make the USD get stronger? I just can't see what good news there will be that isn't consumer related and that can't last.

A. time will come when the canadian treasury wont be able tocontrol the appreciation of the canadian money. usd is going under water.. This is a global problem where most currency are appreciating becuase of the pressure on the us currency and all the problems on deficit, trade, subprime, etc. within 6 months, your currency might be much stronger than what it is now.

A. No one can accuratley predict which way things will go. It really depends on economic data that will be released over the coming days, and whether the data figures come out above or below expectations. I personally think the Euro will get stronger against the USD. My blog below may help you, but its more focused on Sterling. however, it does give info on upcoming data releases.

What do they use as their main currency in Mexico Pesos or USD?
Q. I will be travelling from Australia to Mexico and was wondering in Mexico do they normally use Peso or USD? Am i better to change AUD to Peso before i Leave austr? Will also be travelling to USA. A. Pesos are the main currency but most places will take both Pesos or USD. Generally speaking if you pay in USD you'll pay about 10% more for everything since stores and restaurants round the exchange rate to 10 Pesos to 1 USD, while the actual rate is closer to 11 Pesos to 1 USD. I'd take some USD with you, since I would think that they would be more available in Australia than Mexican Pesos, and then simply withdraw Pesos from an ATM. You bank will charge you, I know when I withdraw from my bank account in Canada the charges are between $3-$6. It adds does tend to add up so I tend to take out larger amounts. A. Buy or rent? Location is the key to price here & it depends on your tastes. I'd suggest West London, Hammersmith & Fulham is pretty metropolitan if you're into that kind of thing. Further West, I'd recommend Richmond, Twickenham, Kingston etc. More laid back and very pretty. Check out & type in various station names from the map at It'll give you info about the local authority, socio-economic data, etc as well as link you to property price sites. Also try Good site that most lettings and buying estate agencies advertise on here. Currency converter at will help you convert GBP to USD at current market rates.

You should request the maker to stop payment on the check and wire the funds to you (cost approx. $50.00 U.S.) or if you both have PayPal, credit that way using the code as other service. The only other option is for the U.S. company to stop payment on the check and go to their bank and get a foreign draft payable to you thru a Singapore financial institutiion, Cost approx, $15 U.S.) Soccerref

A. In the mix of things $50,000,000 isn't a large sum for the start-up of a big company. The first thing needed is a feasability study business plan. It s a short plan that crunches numbers and shows where the money is. You'll need a lawyer and/or an accountants signature on that doc. If that plan has enough detail and reasonably projects profits and the attorney or accountant can't get you to the next step you can turn to an Angel. That s a person with money and knowledge in the area of you planned business. Up to this point your business is in a pre start-up phase often called incubation. The attorney and accountant or the angel can help you put together a team of associates that can get things going on a full business plan. Once that… [cont.]
