Q. I left a Texas company in 2006 and got some severance pay in 2006 and will get some in 2007. I moved to Virginia after I left my Texas job. Do I need to pay Virginia state income tax on my Texas severance pay in 2006? Do I need to pay in 2007?

A. I'm not an expert on every state's income tax laws, but usually you have to report all income on your state return, and then you get to deduct out-of-state amounts. (Texas has no state income tax, so you don't have to worry about them.)

A. In Florida, you can take an online course or rent a video at Blockbuster/Hollywood Video and take a written exam to avoid getting points on your license. It doesn't matter where you got the ticket. Google it, but make sure the site you use is accredited. It will give you a certificate to print out when you're done that you send to the clerk of court office where you live (the official city on your license). You can contact your local clerk of courts office and they should be able to help you find an appropriate site to take the test - or it might have a link on their website. Just search for your county and "clerk of court." It doesn't matter that you got the ticket elsewhere, just that you live in Florida. If you are a Florida… [cont.]

In Virginia what happens if you get caught driving with others in the car with paper license under 18?
Q. Hi i am 17 years old and i just got my paper license in Virginia. The instructor said i can drive alone but not with others unless family. Its becausr im not an adult but is there any big consequence if i get pulled over but i show my paper license and my friends in the car? Do i have to pay a fine or will it be revoked or what? A. Well, what do you want to do? Busch Gardens and Kings Dominion are still open. Also, the Virginia State Fair is still open. (Last weekend for it, though.) There are many parks and museums open. If you are interested in science, the American Civil War, the Revolution, military history, art, clothing, et al. there is a museum for it. Every location has some type of park in it. In Richmond, I love sending people to Maymont Park because of the landscaping and artwork and exotic plants there. (All the niece and nephew want to do there is the petting zoo.) A. The two places that I recommend you look at first are Arlington (especially the Rosslyn area of Arlington) and the area known locally as "the Dulles Corridor." Arlington is the closest Northern Virginia suburb to Washington, DC (just a couple of stops on the Metro subway), and is the center of a lot of businesses and high rise apartments. The Dulles Corridor -- the areas near and around Dulles Airport -- has the highest concentration of tech companies. Lots of geeks means lots of fancy cell phones that might need repair. But while I recommend those places to start, pretty much any of the DC suburban communities might work for you. Alexandria, Vienna, Tysons Corner, Falls Church, etc. are all good locations. A. Dear Dan: That is up to you. Your employer has to with hold taxes based on how you claim your situation. Married/single - allowances or no. If you are single and you claim single/1 less tax will be with held than if you claim single/0. Kentucky will tax all of your income but WV will require you to file as a non-resident and give you credit for taxes paid to Kentucky. Look at both web site to get an idea of the tax rates. Multiple state filing is not easy, so get some help at least the first year. A. Restaurants in the Merchant's Square area of Colonial Williamsburg are very nice. Trellis, Seasons, Blue Talon Bistro, Berret's, and Fat Canary are just a few. The Trellis is always great. I went to Seasons after my graduation from W&M, and Berret's has very good seafood.

A. No he is not. I'm assuming you signed a contract, and in that contract it probably said something about this issue. Usually bosses don't like to give checks in advance because it complicates matters for them, you might want to try asking if you can have it sooner rather than later though because he/she might agree if you give him a reason and present the matter of the timing of the check as urgent Good Luck! How does Virginia Tech manage to win games when their offense is so terrible?
Q. I'm from the Blacksburg area and a huge fan of Virginia Tech, but good God their offense is atrocious. They couldn't complete a pass to save their lives and Taylor is a horrible scrambler. Their defense hasn't been the greatest today either, and I'm still waiting for some great Beamer ball on special teams. What do you think? Do you think they're overrated?
