The human voice consists of sound made by a human being using the vocal folds for talking, singing, laughing, crying, screaming, etc. Human voice is specifically that part of human sound production in which the vocal folds (vocal cords) are the primary sound source. Generally speaking, the mechanism for generating the human voice can be subdivided into three parts; the lungs, the vocal folds within the larynx, and the articulators. The lung (the pump) must produce adequate airflow and air pressure to vibrate vocal folds (this air pressure is the fuel of the voice). The vocal folds (vocal cords) are a vibrating valve that chops up the airflow from the lungs into audible pulses that form the laryngeal sound source. The muscles of the larynx adjust the length and tension of the vocal folds to ‘fine tune’ pitch and tone. The articulators (the parts of the vocal tract above the larynx consisting of tongue, palate, cheek, lips, etc.) articulate and filter the sound emanating from the larynx and to some degree can interact with the laryngeal airflow to strengthen it or weaken it as a sound source. The vocal folds, in combination with the articulators, are capable of producing highly intricate arrays of sound. The tone of voice may be modulated to suggest emotions such as anger, surprise, or happiness. Singers use the human voice as an instrument for creating music. From Wikipedia under the

HI, I w'd like to become a professional singer and have been practicing vocal for the past decade. I just dont know what is the limitation of vocal chord on daily practice...Can someone please give me a professional advice on how long is long enough not to damage one's vocal chord from over doing it? Asked by curios me - Fri Nov 19 11:29:05 2010 - Singing - 2 Answers - Comments A. You really have to feel it out. Usually an hour or two a day is the limit for singers. But just sing and if you feel your throat tightening up or getting sore, call it quits for the day. Also, always gargle warm salt water after you practice. Sounds weird but it really helps to sooth your voice box after working them so hard. Answered by Audrey II - Fri Nov 19 11:32:50 2010 How do you increase your vocal range tremendously?
Q. I currently have a tenor vocal range, and I would like to know how to increase my chest/ head vocal range, so as to be able to hit notes sung by sopranos. I would love to be able to sing all the notes sung by muse or Adam Lambert, so please tell me how to increase my natural vocal range without being gay, castrati, or without having to use my falsetto. Thanks. Asked by Ryan - Fri Dec 3 10:05:08 2010 - Singing - 3 Answers - Comments A. Be patient about exercises that keep taking you up to the highest note you can comfortably hit and to the first note you strain at, until after a few weeks you don't strain anymore, then go another note up with the exercises and work some more. Keep doing over a few months and you will eventually find where your natural limit really is, and it will be higher than you thought when you started. Also, if you can sing falsetto, you need to work on blending the falsetto with your ordinary voice. The falsetto come from using another set of throat muscles that squeeze your vocal cords instead of tightening them, and people with good high ranges overlap the use of the two sets.
