VerbInfinitive to york Third person singular yorks Simple past yorked Past participle yorked Present participle yorking to york (third-person singular simple present yorks, present participle yorking, simple past and past participle yorked) From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. York (pronounced /ˈjɔːk/ ( listen)) is a walled city, situated at the confluence of the Rivers Ouse and Foss in North Yorkshire, England. The city has a rich heritage and has provided the backdrop to major political events throughout much of its two millennia of existence. The city was founded by the Romans in 71 AD. They called it Eboracum, a name perhaps derived from one used by the British tribes who inhabited the area. The Romans made it the capital of their Province of Britannia Inferior. At the end of Roman rule in 415 AD the settlement was taken over by the Angles and the city was renamed Eoforwic. It served as the capital of the Anglian Kingdom of Northumbria. When the Vikings captured the city in 866 AD they renamed it Jórvík and it became the capital of a wider kingdom of the same name covering much of Northern England. After the Norman conquest, the name "York", which was first used in the 13th century, gradually evolved. In the Middle Ages York grew as a major wool trading centre and the ecclesiastical capital of the northern province of England. The Province of York is still one of the two Church of England ecclesiastical provinces, alongside that of Canterbury. York's location on the River Ouse, in the centre of the Vale of York and half way between the capitals of London and Edinburgh means that it has long had a significant position in the nation's transport system. The 19th century saw York, under the influence of George Hudson, become an important hub of the railway network and a manufacturing centre. In recent decades, the economy of York has moved from being dominated by its confectionery and railway-related industries to one that provides services. The University of York and health services have become major employers. Tourism also boosts the local economy because the city offers a wealth of historic attractions, of which York Minster is the most prominent, and a variety of cultural activities. York Racecourse and Kit Kat Crescent, the home of York City F.C., are the most prominent sporting venues in the city and the River Ouse provides opportunities for both sporting and leisure pursuits. From 1996, the term City of York describes a unitary authority area which includes rural areas beyond the old city boundaries. In 2001 the urban area had a population of 137,505, while in 2007 the entire unitary authority had an estimated population of 193,300. From Wikipedia under the

According to Wikipedia: "[The New York Times] stayed with an eight-column format until September 1976, years after other papers had switched to six, and it was one of the last newspapers to adopt color photography, with the first color photograph on the front page appearing on October 16, 1997." Prior to that, on June 6th, 1993, full color was used for the first time in the Sunday Book Review section, according to New York Times' corperate website. "Other Sunday sections Travel, Arts and Leisure, and Real Estate soon follow[ed]." I've seen no reference to the VJ Day photograph mentioned above in my research. It is 3 levels, has tons of Disney memorabilia, and even has character meet & greets on the third floor. If anywhere in New York would have the Disney Kooky pens, I'm betting that it's here. You could even call first and ask them. Q. How can I block off my high-rise, New York City apartment windows so that my cat will be safe? Simply adding a screen will not be enough because she often pushes against the screen when she sees a bird. I've seen child safety bars but I think the bars are too far apart for a small animal. I'd also still like to get some sunlight. Is there a specific product made for this and where can I find it? Asked by catprotector - Thu Mar 30 18:51:34 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Install a heavy duty screen (or a large sheet of Plexiglas) that is also mounted on the wall (interior or exterior), that way when she pushes at it, it will hold. You can also try installing a different type of window; they make some that open vertically instead of horizontally, so you can lower the top portion of the window rather than the bottom. That way your pet is safe and you can let sunshine and fresh air in. Pet stores sell something called "sticky paws" that is generally used on furniture, but might work here, too. The idea is simple; it's a strip of sticky tape that will discourage the pet from touching it again.
